Join the Honors Book Club!

The Honors Book Club was formed last spring for students in any major who enjoy reading and group discussion outside of the classroom.  We’d love to have you join us in the Fall!  Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, September 15th from 4:00-5:00pm and we will meet every other Tuesday at the same time through the end of November, reading one book each month.  (Plus, the Honors College will pay for your book!)  Participating students will have the opportunity to earn a scholarship by writing a reflection essay in December.  Contact the Lead Advisor at Sarah.Timmons@ttu.edu to join and for further details.

HON Meeting

HON’s 1st General Meeting will occur Sept 3rd at 6:30pm in Holden Hall. Come see what the official Honor's College Society is all about. It is a great opportunity to meet other honor's students, build leadership skills, volunteer, and most importantly HAVE FUN. Everyone is invited to come!!!  If you have any questions please contact Sriyutha at Sriyutha.reddy@ttu.edu.

Phi Kappa Phi

If you are a member of Phi Kappa Phi and would like to serve as a student representative on this year's Texas Tech University Chapter Phi Kappa Phi Steering Committee, please contact Dr. Marjean Purinton as soon as possible.  Here is a great opportunity for you to acquire a leadership role in a university-wide honorary society.  You will represent student interests for Phi Kappa Phi and work with the faculty officers on the Steering Committee, which meets about four times a year.  Contact the President of the TTU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, Dr. Marjean Purinton, at 742.1828 or marjean.purinton@ttu.edu. .

Lunch Discussion

The first Lunch Discussion of the fall semester will be held this Friday, September 4, 2009, in the lobby lounge of Knapp Hall (same location as last year).  Lunch Discussion is a chance for Honors students, faculty and staff get together to discuss/debate a particular topic.  Past topics have ranged from the U.S. health care system to TTU’s efforts to grow to 40,000 students, from the 2008 presidential election to the Octomom, from current constitutional issues in the Supreme Court to the Hitler (History) Channel.  This week’s facilitator is Dr. Richard Verrone and the topic is “What do you learn and what should you be learning college?”  Our discussions take place in a safe and fun environment and are meant to be open-minded, respectable and intellectually engaging.  Lunch and drinks are always provided!  All Honors students are welcome!  Honors College Lunch Discussion contact is Dr. Richard Verrone (Richard.verrone@ttu.edu).
