Pizza With a Prof (HON-Eta Omicron Nu)
Everyone is invited to HON's first event this
Thursday, September 17 at 6:30 P.M. in the basement of Human
Sciences 069! Ambassador Tibor P. Nagy, Jr. will be discussing "The
Obama Administration's Greatest Challenges Abroad." Pizza is free for
members and you will have an opportunity to pay your dues ($40) at the
event. If you want to learn more about HON or just want to attend the
lecture, admission is $3 for non-HON members. Sodas will be sold for

Second Year Assessments Needed of Fall 2008 FYE
Program
Were you in the First-Year Experience (FYE)
Program in Fall 2008? If so, the FYE Coordinator and Lead Mentor
need your help to assess the FYE Program’s usefulness to you after a
full year of Honors membership under your belt. Please contact

and take a short 5-10 minute survey.
Need an HD Video Camera for Class Project?
Last year, the Honors College purchased a pair
of high definition Canon video cameras, originally to be used by
students in FYE and URF. However, we want to make sure that all
Honors students are aware of their availability for class projects if
needed. If you are interested in borrowing a video camera, contact

Late URF Opportunity
The
deadline for URF applications has passed, but an opportunity for the
right Honors student interested in undergraduate research became
available in the last few days. Dr. Susan Brumfield, Professor of
Music Education, is looking for a highly-motivated student who is
computer-savvy and skilled in multi-media presentations (including
technical aspects) to work on an exciting project that deals with music
education and ethnomusicology. For a full description of her

Interested in Med School?
Teach for America is hosting a virtual event
focused on their partnerships with medical schools across the country on
Tuesday, September 15th at 3:00 pm. Students
will have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Lina Mehta, Associate Dean of
Case Western Medical School, as well as a current med student. Dr. Mehta
will discuss her views on Teach for America, why her medical school
values the experience of TFA corps members, and how the TFA experience
fits into a career in medicine. In addition, Dr. Mehta will be
able to answer questions relating to the medical school application

Lunch Discussion
Dr. Mark McGinley, member of the Honors College
faculty and Associate Professor of Biology, will facilitate this week’s
Lunch Discussion. Dr. McGinley will lead a discussion about "Our
relationship to the natural world." In preparation for the
discussion, Dr. McGinley advises attendees to read an article from
The Chronicle of Higher Education entitled "We are all Madoffs: Our
relationship to the natural world is a Ponzi scheme.”
