Students must apply separately to Texas Tech University. Application and admittance to the university are completely separate from the Honors College application process. Once students apply to the university on ApplyTexas, please know that it could take up to 5 days for that application to be recieved and processed by Texas Tech before you recieve your eRaider information via email.
Choosing a Major: It is not necessary to choose one of the two in-house Honors majors, Honors Arts & Letters and Environment & the Humanities, on the Texas Common Application in order to be admitted into the Honors College. Please select the major which you choose to pursue.
The deadline for preferred admission for incoming freshmen is February 1, 2014.
Read all the instructions, as well as the application, and think about your answers. Remember that the admissions committee reviews hundreds of applications each year. Because our application process is competitive, superficial answers typically are not helpful to the admissions committee.
Confine your answers to the space allotted. Please do not send resumes or other materials. Remember that the number of activities listed is generally less important than the quality. Consider listing those activities that show leadership, creativity, or a sense of responsibility in the community.
Answer the essay questions carefully and thoughtfully. The essay questions allow the admissions committee to gauge your critical thinking and writing skills. This is a portfolio application process. Your answers to the essay questions weigh heavily in the admissions decision. Please proofread your work.
The Honors College application asks for your TTU ID number, also called an "R number". To get this number, students should apply to Texas Tech University via the ApplyTexas Application in order to receive their eRaider username. Students can then login to Raiderlink to see their TTU ID number, which will be listed underneath their name in the top right corner of the screen.
The application for the Honors College requires two letters of recommendation. The review committee would like for those letters to come from academic sources. These letters are separate from the letters that the university requests. Please provide your recommender with the Recommendation Letter Guide, the link is below. Applications without two letters of recommendation will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed.
Letters of recommendation must be sent to the Honors College via email to email@example.com Letters should by emailed by the recommender. The letters must be sent from an official school/company email address and must include the mailing address of the recommender.
The application fee for the Honors College is $25.
The application fee is non-refundable and is part of the application process online.
Because this is a rolling admission process and there are limited spaces in the Honors College, students who wait until the final deadline to send an application reduce their chances of being admitted.
We begin rolling review and admission September 1st with priority consideration given to applications postmarked by February 1st. The earlier you are accepted to the Honors College, the better your chances to take full advantage of the university’s opportunities, such as assignments to June orientation sessions and Honors residence halls. You may apply to the Honors College before you apply to the university.
Only complete packets will be reviewed.
For admission during the spring semester, current and tranfer students must fill out the online application, submit letters of recommendation and the application fee.
Application deadline for spring admittance is the last day of final examinations for the fall semester. These applications may be held until Fall semester grades are posted (for TTU students) or sent to us in an official transcript (transfer students). Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.400 or better to apply to the Honors College.
Letters of recommendation should be from college instructors.

National Merit Finalists are assured admission into the Honors College with the completion of the entire Honors application. .
National Hispanic Scholars are assured admission into the Honors College with the completion of the entire Honors application.
Terry Scholars are assured admission into the Honors College with completion of the entire Honors application following notification of a Terry Scholars Award.
Students in an International Baccalaureate program are assured admission contingent upon the receipt of an IB diploma. Simply complete the entire application and meet all deadlines.
Note that you must formally apply to the Honors College in order to achieve admission. Additionally, you are required to submit a final transcript indicating your successful completion of the IB Diploma.
Please note: Students must be accepted to TTU before they will be able to sign up for a room and dining plan.
Priority Room Selection is the system University Student Housing uses to guide students through the process of choosing their own bed space and dining plan. It allows you to select your own bed space in a particular room and hall; it does not allow you to select a particular roommate. On campus housing is in high demand. There is no deadline for signing up, but all rooms are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Students accepted to the Honors College can sign up to live in the Honors Learning Community in either Gordon Hall or Murray Hall. The Honors Learning Community provides a unique experience for students accepted to the Honors College to live together in an environment supporting their academic, personal and professional success through the enriched learning experiences provided by the Honors College. If you don't yet qualify for the Honors LC, but believe you will in the future, you should go ahead and complete the room selection process while you wait for qualification.
