
Dr. Isis Leslie completed her doctorate at Rutgers, the State
University of New Jersey (2005) in Political Science with a specialization in
Political Theory. Professor Leslie has taught at Georgetown University, the
George Washington University and Rutgers University. She has been a dissertation
fellow at Northeastern University, an Endowed Visiting Scholar at the Centennial
Center in Washington, D.C. and a consultant to the American Political Science
Association. Her teaching and research interests are in ancient political
philosophy, modern political thought, German idealism, race and philosophy, and
American political thought and culture.
Her current works-in-progress examine the relationship between the history of racial violence in the United States and American political ideas of freedom.
As a political philosopher, Professor Leslie draws on film studies, history, and literature to examine questions of social justice. Some of her special interests include globalization, the intersections of race politics and political theory, ideas and practices of gender, comparative political thought, human rights - their definition and abuses - and the relationships among psychology, politics, and religion.
