Dr. Marjean Purinton
Assistant Dean

Marjean D. Purinton is Professor of English and Associate Dean of the University Honors College at Texas Tech University. She is the author of Romantic Ideology Unmasked: The Mentally Constructed Tyrannies in Dramas of William Wordsworth, Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, and Joanna Baillie and the forthcoming Staging Grotesques and Ghosts: British Romantic Techno-Gothic Drama as well as numerous articles on late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century drama, women writers, feminist theory, and pedagogical matters. A member of the Teaching Academy and a recipient of a President’s Excellence in Teaching Award, Dr. Purinton teaches courses in English, Women’s Studies, Comparative Literature, and Honors. Dr. Purinton is the Teaching Section Editor for the online project British Women Playwrights around 1800.

Dr. Purinton is President of the International Conference on Romanticism and the British Literature representative to the Executive Council of the South Central Modern Language Association. She is on the editorial board of two journals: Intertexts and the South Central Review.

Beginning her thirteenth year at Texas Tech University, Dr. Purinton enjoys the students and challenges of her work in the Honors College. Her family consists of a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Darby, who is extremely friendly and loving. She and Darby enjoy walking and playing ball. Dr. Purinton also enjoys swimming and reading in her precious free time.
