Thomas is originally from Midland, Texas. He earned a B.A. in German and History with an emphasis in religions, summa cum laude, from Texas Tech University in December 2004 and earned an M.A. in History from Texas Tech in May 2013.  He is married to Jessica Reynolds, a Special Education teacher for Lubbock Independent School District, and has two children, Addison and Avett.

Since April 2008, Thomas has served as the First-Year Experience Coordinator for the Honors College. Of the Honors advisors, Thomas is one of the first with whom new students become familiar because they seem him frequently during Red Raider Orientation in the summer and in the FYE Program in the fall.  Thomas is also an academic advisor, he works with Sarah Timmons on Honors Study Abroad Waivers, and he coordinates Friday Lunch Discussion and the Passport Program.
