Launch of The Institute for the Study of Western Civilization

Description: Officials of the Texas Tech University System will host a reception introducing The Institute for the Study of Western Civilization and welcoming Dr. Stephen H. Balch, recipient of the President's National Humanities Medal and a leading expert on Western civilization.
The Institute for the Study of Western Civilization will be a new program in the Honors College and foster research and investigation into the nature, origins and future of the West. This new program will be the only university institute in the nation of its kind. Kent Hance, chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, and Dr. Lawrence Schovanec, Texas Tech University interim president, will make remarks prior to the keynote address, delivered by Dr. Balch.
