Graduate Hall Coordinators

The Graduate Hall Coordinator (GHC), as an educator, works to provide direction for student learning and academic success while assisting with the coordination of the administrative, supervisory, and programmatic needs of an educational area of one to three buildings housing 500 – 1100 students. As a live-in staff member of University Student Housing, the Graduate Hall Coordinator is responsible for the development of comfortable living and learning communities that foster academic success. This is achieved by assisting individuals with their personal needs and concerns, supervising staff, and advising student leadership groups.

Ty Hollowell

Ty Hollowell is the Graduate Hall Coordinator for Hulen/Clement

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the traditions here at Texas Tech and the pride that everyone has for this amazing university. Whenever walking around campus, you're greeted with many "Guns Up" signs and a friendly smile from everyone! It's very welcoming and inviting to feel like you belong at all times whenever just walking the campus or visiting different offices.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy that in my position I'm constantly getting new experiences developing myself professionally while getting to work with students as well. Serving alongside professional staff and students who are passionate about serving others to help students become their best self in their time here at Texas Tech makes me happy every day.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

Very family oriented. Whenever I was first introduced to the USH team during my on-campus interview during my graduate school search, I felt right at home when I first arrived on campus. I instantly felt this was the right place for me and I couldn't imagine myself being anywhere else than with this fun-loving bunch of friends I've grown to call my family so quickly.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy that there's always something to do in Lubbock because the city caters towards the college students and provides an atmosphere that matches the high energy that TTU has! Whether you're walking across the street for a quick bite to eat or across town for shopping, there's so much to do and a lot to see within Raider nation, wreck ‘em Tech!

Caitlin Allen

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

One of my favorite things about Texas Tech is the Red Raider pride which is etched into every aspect of the people and the campus. The atmosphere draws you in, and the passion is contagious.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

In my position, I have the opportunity to work with students that are vastly different. I love being able to meet them wherever they are at in their journey, and to get to know them, so I can help them pursue what they are passionate about.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

University Student Housing is a welcoming and supporting atmosphere. You can go to anyone in the department for advice or help and they are happy to assist you. Additionally, I appreciate that they are constantly thinking of ways to better themselves, so students have the best experience.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy that Lubbock has so many different things to do, but it also feels like a small town. I am always looking for new places to go, and Lubbock has a lot of shopping, restaurants, theaters, museums, and parks. The community is also kind, and has a lot of Red Raider pride to support the university.

Ashley Kurtz

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The first thing that came to my mind was the amazing pool, because I love swimming. However, I love the large and beautiful campus, and the sense of pride that the institution has. I have seen the logo as well as black and red everywhere!

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love that I am given the opportunity to work with a variety of students who I can assist in personal and Professional Development. I also enjoy that I get the opportunity to support students, and teach them skills that will help them even after they have moved out of the halls.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would say that University Student Housing is very welcoming, fun, and feels like a family. I would also say that the department is striving to make changes that best serve all students.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I really enjoy how sweet people in Lubbock are. Lubbock has the small town feeling, while also having many things bigger cities have. I also think that there is a variety of great food options! Lastly, Lubbock reminds me a lot of my hometown so I feel closer to home than I am.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the welcoming and accepting environment Texas Tech has created! The campus climate is inviting and supportive and it makes me feel right at home!

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy the excitement of meeting new students! My position allows me to meet and support many students within the Texas Tech community and I am happy to do so! I strive to help students find a home at Texas Tech just as I have!

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The University Student Housing Department is like one big family! Since my time at Texas Tech, I have had the privilege of becoming a part of an organization that provides incredible support to its members. It reminds me of how I feel when I am around my own family, and I love every moment!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy the amazing food around Lubbock! I am from a much smaller community where we did not have many fantastic dining options. Lubbock has provided many superb places to grab a bite to eat! I am looking forward to trying everything!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the school spirit, and the pride that is attached to being a Red Raider. Texas Tech has a very strong sense of commitment and morale, and I really love that.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I really enjoy getting to be part of the student body while also being a Texas Tech employee. Being a graduate student, I still have the aspects of class, homework, finals, etc; but I also get to take my first step, as a professional, into the student affairs field.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

It is basically a big family of student affairs professionals, working hard to maintain the high standard we hold for Texas Tech, and for our department, while also striving to encourage one another in both personal, and professional growth.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Lubbock really has a little bit of everything. There is an incredible art scene around campus, and around town, as well as a bunch of neat local restaurants and vendors. There are also a ton of neat cities within a day-trips distance if you want to get out of town.

Andy Rowe

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the people that I get to interact with each day. For someone whose hometown is over 1,500 miles away, I sure feel at home here.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

Seeing students find their passions and develop that into a career or hobby is one of the most rewarding aspects.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I believe the department can be described on its own simply based on University Student Housing's motto "Here to Serve Students". Their passion for creating the best environment for the 8000 students that live on campus can be seen within every residence hall.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

The warm weather is a huge bonus! I also love golfing and Lubbock has four great golf courses within 10 -15 minutes from campus. And I definitely can't forget the amazing food surrounding campus!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the saying that From Here It's Possible because I truly believe that the faculty and staff are at TTU to make sure every student has the power to succeed and help them become what they truly want to be. I also love sitting by the pond at Urbanovsky Park and reading under the trees by Horn/Knapp.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I appreciate that I get to work with so many student leaders and watch them grow as I grow with them. I am also happy that I can cultivate community by leaving my office door open to chat with residents, maintenance, and housekeeping staff within my complex.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

Caring. Compassionate. Community. We truly strive to become a family, work together for a common goal, and see success all across the board. It really does feel like a place that it is your home away from home!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

The people are extremely kind wherever you go and customer service is paramount. I love to volunteer and the community gives many great opportunities such as playing with dogs at animal shelters and helping out with set painting at one of the local theatres. There is always something going on to keep you entertained and busy.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The thing I love most about Texas Tech is the passion that the people have for Tech. Everyone here represents this institution in the proudest way and it really creates a climate that you want to be a part of.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love most about my position is the students I have the privilege to work with. Our student leaders are one of the reasons our residential halls thrive. I love watching them grow and help make our students time here at Tech the best that it can be.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The University Student Housing Department is invested in you. They want to see you succeed and are more than willing to dedicate time to watch your growth as a professional.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love the people here in Lubbock. They are welcoming and friendly and give that small town type of vibe. There are a ton of restaurants and shopping in Lubbock as well. There are plenty of museums and live music to keep you entertained that also give you that large city type of vibe.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the campus! Every time I take a walk around, I always find something I never noticed before. Each building is unique and detailed. All the artwork is amazing, too! I'm so lucky to call this campus my home.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy the fact that I am treated as an equal throughout the department. While I am still in graduate school, University Student Housing views me as a professional. I also really enjoy the first hand experience I get working with students. I am able to apply what I am learning in class directly to my position!

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

We are one big family! Many of us came to Tech from far away and left behind family and friends. We are all there to lean on each other and be supportive of each other when our families are not here. Everyone is a pleasure to work with, and we are a very passionate and dedicated department. We are all here for the students, and want to help them succeed!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Coming from Illinois, I am really loving the weather! I also enjoy getting off campus and exploring town. There are so many restaurants, shops, and unique things in Lubbock that you can't find anywhere else! I'm always looking for a new adventure, and Lubbock provides plenty of things to do!

Molly Thome

Molly Thome is the Graduate Hall Coordinator for Chitwood/Weymouth

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

What I love most thus far about Texas Tech would be the pride that students, employees, alumni, and the community have for Tech! I also really enjoy all of the different traditions that go on and all of the history that is all around when here on campus! When walking around campus one can see in the students' faces that they are proud to be here and one can sense the love that they have for their University.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I look forward to working and interacting with students every day! I love that not only can I make an impact on their lives, but they can make an impact on mine. I also really enjoy that each day brings something new to challenge me and allow me to grow and learn not only in my position but also as a person.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

Since being here, I would definitely have to say that this department is like a family. These individuals know that we are all coming from different walks of life, and yet they go out of their way to make sure that we are comfortable in our work and living environment, while still challenging us daily and setting us up for success. Everyone is also ALWAYS upbeat, excited to share what they are doing, and also teach everyone about the Disney customer service values that University Student Housing holds at heart!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

While being here in Lubbock I have found so many things that I love doing…outside of the multiple Target's that is!! I really enjoy that Lubbock is a big city with everything you need, yet it truly has the feel of a smaller town with genuine and kind people. Also, the support that the community has for Tech is just incredible!

Billy Trahan

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the conversation and support of the staff. They are all willing to help and answer any questions you may have. The friendly people are what makes Texas Tech a welcoming and thriving community.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy the student engagement and development aspect of my position. I get the privilege to work with amazing CAs, SAs, SBA, and RLC. The interaction with people is where I really thrive.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The USH is inviting, engaging, and progressive. The staff wants to get to know you and really care about what you are saying. They are really open minded and allow you to be your truest self.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love how the Marsha Sharp freeway can take you anywhere you need to go. Honestly, everything is like 10 to 5 minutes away. It is convenient and easy living in Lubbock.

Graduate Assistant for Residence Education and Academic Programs (REAP)

The Graduate Assistants for Residence Education and Academic Programs, as educators, work with the Residence Life Coordinator Manager for Academic Initiatives, the Manager for Student Leadership Development and the Manager of Recruitment, Staff Orientation, & Education to provide direction for recruitment, student leadership, student learning and academic success for residents, student staff, and professional staff living on campus at Texas Tech University. Each GA will report directly to one of those positions with indirect reporting lines to all.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the fact that no matter where you go on campus you can always see the Double Ts! It encourages lots of pride in the campus community!

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love the mobility that my position has because of all the learning communities that I meet with! It also gives me the opportunity to interact with different student and professional staff members in each building!

It truly is a family oriented department! I have felt so supported since the very beginning of my time here. This support is also shown to the students and the department goes above and beyond to make sure that students can be successful!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I am a huge foodie, so I love all of the different restaurants and places to eat here! There are always new and exciting places to explore with new foods to try!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the infectious school pride that you see on and off campus, as well as the friendly and sincere people.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

Academics are obviously the heart of the college experience, and being able to support residents with school means that we are helping set them up for a lifetime of success.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

It is the definition of "no 'I' in 'team'". The department mentality is about understanding the bigger picture outside of your position, area and even the department. It is focused on working as best as we can as a team, celebrating each other's achievements, and picking each other up when things get tough.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

There are so many small corners of Lubbock that you find. It's a big town, and there are so many unique places, restaurants and shops waiting for you to find.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

Texas Tech feels like home as soon as you step on campus; there is truly a place for everyone! Those involved in our institution have such great sense of pride for this university. I love that the possibilities are endless at Texas Tech.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I truly enjoy working with the different camps and conferences that come through our campus. There is nothing better than getting to see the faces light up of those seeing the Raider Pride for the first time! Having the chance to meet a wide variety of people through our conference services shows you just how much of an impact our department can have.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The first word that comes to mind when I think about our department is supportive. Everyone truly cares about the success of one another! When you need a helping hand, there is an endless amount of people willing to do whatever they can to keep you moving forward. The family atmosphere is what keeps you loving every part of your journey at Texas Tech.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love Texas! Lubbock is every bit of southern charm that one could hope for when living in this great state. The food is my favorite thing about this city; it does not matter what your fix is, you can find it here! Lubbock has absolutely everything you need to have a great time! The community is full of genuine people who care about you and back our university whole-heartedly.
