Graduate Hall Coordinators

The Graduate Hall Coordinator (GHC), as an educator, works to provide direction for student learning and academic success while assisting with the coordination of the administrative, supervisory, and programmatic needs of an educational area of one to three buildings housing 500 – 1100 students. As a live-in staff member of University Student Housing, the Graduate Hall Coordinator is responsible for the development of comfortable living and learning communities that foster academic success. This is achieved by assisting individuals with their personal needs and concerns, supervising staff, and advising student leadership groups.

Anne Bavousett

Anne Bavousett is the Graduate Hall Coordinator for Chitwood/Weymouth

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the public art displays. Just by walking around campus I am treated to all kinds of art and history. It is neat to see the mixture of the new and old art installments.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy working with first year students and helping them find their place to fit in. I also love helping students develop both professionally and personally. This position allows me to see people grow from incoming freshmen to graduation.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The University Student Housing department is a supportive family. We treat every level of employee from Student Assistant to Director of Housing with respect. No one is belittled. That is what makes working for University Student housing such a pleasure.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Lubbock is the biggest small town you will ever live in. It has most of the big city amenities with the feel of a small town. The people are almost always friendly and everyone really supports Texas Tech.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the traditions here at Texas Tech and the pride that everyone has for this amazing university. Whenever walking around campus, you're greeted with many "Guns Up" signs and a friendly smile from everyone! It's very welcoming and inviting to feel like you belong at all times whenever just walking the campus or visiting different offices.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy that in my position I'm constantly getting new experiences developing myself professionally while getting to work with students as well. Serving alongside professional staff and students who are passionate about serving others to help students become their best self in their time here at Texas Tech makes me happy every day.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

Very family oriented. Whenever I was first introduced to the USH team during my on-campus interview during my graduate school search, I felt right at home when I first arrived on campus. I instantly felt this was the right place for me and I couldn't imagine myself being anywhere else than with this fun-loving bunch of friends I've grown to call my family so quickly.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy that there's always something to do in Lubbock because the city caters towards the college students and provides an atmosphere that matches the high energy that TTU has! Whether you're walking across the street for a quick bite to eat or across town for shopping, there's so much to do and a lot to see within Raider nation, wreck ‘em Tech!

John Jaso

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The thing I love most about Texas Tech is the passion that the people have for Tech. Everyone here represents this institution in the most proud way and it really creates a climate that you want to be a part of.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love most about my position is the students I have the privilege to work with. Our student leaders are one of the reasons our residential halls thrive. I love watching them grow and help make our students time here at Tech the best that it can be.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The University Student Housing Department is invested in you. They want to see you succeed and are more than willing to dedicate time to watch your growth as a professional.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love the people here in Lubbock. They are welcoming and friendly and give that small town type of vibe. There are a ton of restaurants and shopping in Lubbock as well. There are plenty of museums and live music to keep you entertained that also give you that large city type of vibe.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the pride that the students and staff take in their University. I am always amazed to hear people talk about how thrilled they are to be a member of this community. I also really appreciate some of the traditions that are observed on campus that show that Red Raider pride!

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy working with the students that live and work in our residence halls. I take great pride in helping student staff develop themselves professionally while providing excellent customer service to our residents. I also enjoy working with our professional staff to develop and pursue departmental initiatives to better serve our students.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would definitely say that USH feels like a family. From the moment I stepped onto campus for my own interview I have felt that I have an excellent support system her at Texas Tech. The level of investment that the department has in its employees is truly astounding.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I can't get over how friendly everyone is in Lubbock. Whenever I am out in town I always meet someone who's friendliness makes my day that much better! I don't know that I've ever been in another city of this size with so many friendly and good natured citizens! Also, I love how many excellent options there are for fun and dining around Lubbock.

I love how welcoming it was from the moment I stepped on campus. I appreciate all of the support and the family like atmosphere. I could not ask for a better experience.

I enjoy getting to work with the students and staff. We have a great support system and a place to be ourselves.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The family atmosphere will make you feel like you are at home. There is always someone there to support you. Never be afraid to ask questions, they are always willing to find the answer for you.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love all of the public art across the city of Lubbock. There is something new to see every day. The public art is like nothing I have ever seen before.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I absolutely love the charisma and spirit. The students, faculty and staff smiles are contagious and warming. I also enjoy being surrounded by numerous cultures and diversity.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

Living in hall and seeing the residents figure out the world and experiencing epiphanies. Every time I get to meet someone new in my building or saying hello to someone new makes my day.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would describe university housing similar to the Brady Bunch. Everyone has their own quirk, specialty and characteristic. We meld together to create a warm, caring family unit.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy the lack of moisture. The temperature is high, but the humidity comfortable to hang outdoors. I was also blown away by how incredibly nice the folks in this city are. There are also many fun furry animals like prarie dogs!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the campus! Every time I take a walk around, I always find something I never noticed before. Each building is unique and detailed. All the artwork is amazing, too! I'm so lucky to call this campus my home.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy the fact that I am treated as an equal throughout the department. While I am still in graduate school, University Student Housing views me as a professional. I also really enjoy the first hand experience I get working with students. I am able to apply what I am learning in class directly to my position!

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

We are one big family! Many of us came to Tech from far away and left behind family and friends. We are all there to lean on each other and be supportive of each other when our families are not here. Everyone is a pleasure to work with, and we are a very passionate and dedicated department. We are all here for the students, and want to help them succeed!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Coming from Illinois, I am really loving the weather! I also enjoy getting off campus and exploring town. There are so many restaurants, shops, and unique things in Lubbock that you can't find anywhere else! I'm always looking for a new adventure, and Lubbock provides plenty of things to do!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

Everything. I love the welcoming spirit of the people who make up Lubbock, Texas. You can feel the positive vibe of the Red Raider Nation throughout Lubbock!

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

The aspect of Texas Tech I enjoy the most is the diversity, which correlates to more social interaction with students and faculty. The way Texas Tech is invested in your professional development.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

A Family! One body with different moving parts, each depending on one another to move forward.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy the small town feel with benefits of a large city. There is something for everyone in Lubbock with an open mind but also providing time to focus on professional growth.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the pride and affinity that the students have for their school. Where else can you find a song, like Victory Bells by Josh Abbott, about what it means to be a Raider? When you walk onto the Texas Tech campus you feel the love that the students have for their school. I may be new to Texas Tech but I already feel that I bleed Scarlet and Black!

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

The students are what I look forward to everyday. Being able to engage with students on a daily basis is the highlight of this position. Furthermore, the ability to challenge the students through academic and social programs makes this position truly amazing.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

University Student Housing is a family! We are constantly spending a lot of time with each other inside and outside of work and we love each other. These are the people that I am going to consider my family for the rest of my life and I have to say that this family was everything and more than what I expected!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love that Lubbock is a college town. The city and the university are connected causing the students to have access to so many different and unique opportunities in the city. I also love that when it comes to pride for the school, it does not matter if you are a student or you have lived in Lubbock your whole life, there is no question that Texas Tech is the best university in the country!

Molly Thome

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

What I love most thus far about Texas Tech would be the pride that students, employees, alumni, and the community have for Tech! I also really enjoy all of the different traditions that go on and all of the history that is all around when here on campus! When walking around campus one can see in the students faces that they are proud to be here and one can sense the love that they have for their University.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I look forward to working and interacting with students every day! I love that not only can I make an impact on their lives, but they can make an impact on mine. I also really enjoy that each day brings something new to challenge me and allow me to grow and learn not only in my position, but also as a person.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

Since being here, I would definitely have to say that this department is like a family. These individuals know that we are all coming from different walks of life, and yet they go out of their way to make sure that we are comfortable in our work and living environment, while still challenging us daily and setting us up for success. Everyone is also ALWAYS upbeat, excited to share what they are doing, and also teach everyone about the Disney customer service values that University Student Housing holds at heart!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

While being here in Lubbock I have found so many things that I love doing…outside of the multiple Target's that is!! I really enjoy that Lubbock is a big city with everything you need, yet it truly has the feel of a smaller town with genuine and kind people. Also the support that the community has for Tech is just incredible!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the conversation and support of the staff. They are all willing to help and answer any questions you may have. The friendly people are what makes Texas Tech a welcoming and thriving community.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy the student engagement and development aspect of my position. I get the privilege to work with amazing CAs, SAs, SBA, and RLC. The interaction with people is where I really thrive.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The USH is inviting, engaging, and progressive. The staff wants to get to know you and really care about what you are saying. They are really open minded and allow you to be your truest self.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love how the Marsha Sharp freeway can take you anywhere you need to go. Honestly everything is like 10 to 5 minutes away. It is convenient and easy living in Lubbock.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I absolutely the campus! The buildings at Texas Tech are so beautiful, as are all of the art pieces. I love going on walks around campus, because I always seem to find another beautiful thing.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love that every day is different. I am surrounded by wonderful staff members who are constantly making me think critically, and allowing me to learn and grow.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The Department is full of people who genuinely want you to learn and grow as an individual. There are so many opportunities here if only you ask.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love how much Texas Tech pride the community has. You will see the Double T everywhere in the community, in the decorations and on the sides of buildings.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

My favorite thing about Texas Tech is the school spirit. I also love the beautiful pieces of art that are all over campus. In addition, I love the architecture of the buildings.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy talking and getting to know new people. In addition, I love being able to work with different groups around campus. Texas Tech makes it really easy to help out with hall government to RHA/NRHH or teaming up with another student org, the possibilities are endless.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The housing department is one of a kind. I love how energetic everyone is and how excited they are to help the Red Raider family. Amongst the energy they are the friendliest people I have ever met. I feel as though anyone is welcomed here!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy how close everything is to campus, and how easy it is to navigate through the city of Lubbock. In addition, I believe there is something here for everyone from music to art. Lubbock also has a lot of cool movie theaters and shops to go to.

Graduate Assistant for Residence Education and Academic Programs (REAP)

The Graduate Assistants for Residence Education and Academic Programs, as educators, work with the Residence Life Coordinator Manager for Academic Initiatives, the Manager for Student Leadership Development and the Manager of Recruitment, Staff Orientation, & Education to provide direction for recruitment, student leadership, student learning and academic success for residents, student staff, and professional staff living on campus at Texas Tech University. Each GA will report directly to one of those positions with indirect reporting lines to all.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

My favorite part about Texas Tech are all the unique and abstract art pieces that can be found all over campus. Some buildings also have beautiful art displayed in the walls. I also love all the school spirit and all the pride people in the community take in being part of Texas Tech. The staff and students show a great deal of pride in been Red Raiders.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I like all the one on one student interactions I get to have with the students living in Coleman. I also enjoy working with the rest of the Res Life department. The people in the department are warm, welcoming, and willing to help us all succeed. I enjoy all the ever changing challenges and responsibilities I face in this position.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The department is warm, welcoming, challenging, organized, and personable. The department cares deeply about the personal and developmental growth of all those who are part of it. In this department you will be challenged and supported.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

The food in Lubbock is amazing. There are many good restaurants around that it is hard to choose one. Lubbock also has some great art and museums. There are many ways to stay entertained in Lubbock.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the school spirit and the energy on campus. It is easy to tell that everyone is proud to be a Red Raider and it creates such an awesome and supportive environment. I love being a part of the Red Raider family!

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love working with so many different students throughout the year. It is great to be able to help students get the resources they need on campus to help them be successful as well as watch them grow throughout the year. I really enjoy being able to help provide a supportive and inclusive community for our students in University Student Housing.

University Student Housing at Texas Tech is a very encouraging department. Everyone here wants to help one another to grow as professionals in the Student Affairs world and see success for individuals and the USH team. Simply put, every one on this team will always have your back.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

One thing that I really love about living in Lubbock is the people here. Everyone is kind and genuinely cares to know how your day is. I also really like that it is a big city with a small town feel. It is really great to be in a community that supports its university so much.
