Senior Associate Managing Director

The Senior Associate Managing Director, as an educator, provides direction for student learning and academic success while coordinating the overall administrative, supervisory, assessment, and programmatic facets for a co-educational campus of 8,000 students. The Senior Associate Managing Director is responsible for the direct and indirect supervision of the Residence Life staff, the coordination of student leadership groups, the development of comfortable living and learning communities that foster academic success, and assisting individuals with their personal needs and concerns.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The pride of the folks who work here. We love it and we love our students. I also enjoy working with staff from all over the country.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

Every day is different and challenging. My "learner" strengths get fed well by having to learn new ways of doing things.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

A family. Very relational and fun place to work. We work hard, and we are rewarded for it.

I love the diversity. Easy to get around in and it offers many fun artistic things to do.

Assistant Director for Residence Education and Academic Programs

The Assistant Director, as an educator, provides direction for student learning and academic success while coordinating the overall educational and learning facets for a co-educational campus of 8,000 students. The Assistant Director is responsible for the direct and indirect supervision of the Residence Life specialty staff positions, student leadership groups, and the development of comfortable living-learning communities that foster academic success, and assists individuals with their personal needs and concerns.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the spirit and pride that students, faculty, and staff have for Texas Tech. There is no doubt that Red Raiders are proud of their university.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy getting students connected with faculty and staff outside of the classroom. It's important to ensure that we are supporting students' academics as well as helping them grow personally. Through programs, Learning Communities, Residential Tutoring, and individual meetings, I enjoy seeing the connections that students make that help them be successful during their time at Tech.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

We are a large department that focuses on creating a great experience for our students.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy the small town feel with the benefits of a large city. There is something for everyone; you just have to find what's right for you.

Assistant Director for Training and Development

The Assistant Director for Training and Development, as an educator, is responsible for all educational and developmental activities occurring within Residence Life in order to create a comprehensive and seamless learning experience for all levels of staff, including, but not limited to, overseeing full-time and student staff training and development. The Assistant Director for Training and Development is also charged in assisting with the orientation of new staff to the institution by monitoring and assisting in the completion of institutional hiring and training requirements as well as assisting with the development of a departmental orientation.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

It's a very welcoming, family friendly environment. The traditions as well as the commitment to grow and advance ourselves as a University is great.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love processes. Basically, my whole job is looking at processes with an end result in mind, specifically in training and development. I am challenged to think critically and analyze our processes daily.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would say its established with a lot of opportunities for growth. It is very student centered, especially in terms of student follow-up which is a top focus. I believe we are dedicated to the future of our new professionals and that's part of my job to make sure individuals are leaving Tech prepared for their next step on their journey.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy the college town feel within a larger city. While it's not a Dallas, there is still plenty to do in Lubbock. I enjoy going bowling during my league night. I enjoy going to the movies, enjoying one of the many restaurants we have in town and of course going to Tech football games!

Assistant Director - Residence Life

University Student Housing at Texas Tech University Promotes Each Student's Learning Experience by creating safe, supportive learning environments for academic and personal success. University Student Housing is committed to the total development of the resident within an inclusive community through student government, programming, residence hall standards, and supportive learning environments in the residence halls.

The Assistant Director (AD), as an educator, provides direction for student learning and academic success while coordinating the overall administrative, supervisory, and programmatic facets for a co-educational area of four-to-five residential complexes housing 3200-3700 students. The Assistant Director is responsible for the direct and indirect supervision of the residence life staff, the coordination of student leadership groups, and the development of comfortable living and learning communities that foster academic success. This is achieved by assisting individuals with their personal needs and concerns, supervising student support staff, and advising student leadership groups.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

All of the long standing traditions! From the Victory Bells to the Masked Rider, from the Goin' Band to "Guns Up!" - traditions are what I value in an institution. I love seeing our students carry on those traditions and bring them to life!

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I supervise a group of very talented and young professionals. It's exciting to see them develop in their career and discover their passions in the work that they do with our students.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

Our department knows how to make you feel welcome and keeps the students at the center of our work. It takes every side of University Student Housing to make sure that our students have the best possible experience at Texas Tech!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock?

Coming from North Carolina, I sure enjoy having very little to no humidity on those incredibly hot Texas days. The sunrises and sunsets are pretty spectacular too!

Assistant Director for Student Leadership Developement

The Assistant Director for Student Leadership Development, as an educator, works to provide direction for student leadership and development for residents living on the Texas Tech campus. The Assistant Director for Student Leadership Development is responsible for the advisement of assigned student leadership groups and the coordination of leadership programs.

Manager for Conference Services

The Manager for Conference Services, as an educator, serves to provide quality conferences and customer service to internal and external clients. The responsibilities for the Manager for Conference Services are to coordinate the negotiations, logistics, and contracting of conference clients; billing, budgeting, and database management; and assisting conference clients in coordinating their conference. Manager for Conference Services participates in the recruitment, selection and training of student staff as well as the placement of professional staff and student staff for the conference season, and outreach contact concerning orientation and prospective student initiatives. Manager for Conference Services provides leadership and direct supervision to the Residence Life Coordinators, Graduate Assistants, and ACUHO-I interns during the summer months, while providing indirect supervision during the academic year.

Manager for Recruitment and Staff Orientation

The Manager for Recruitment and Staff Orientation, as an educator, provides direction, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive selection, training and development programs for professional and student staff within Residence Life. The Manager for Recruitment and Staff Orientation co-supervises a Senior Business Assistant and indirectly supervises Residence Life Coordinators, graduate assistants and student staff in the Residence Life Office.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I absolutely love the spirit of the University! The minute you walk on campus, you instantly want to become a Red Raider. From the football games to the plays and concerts there is always something unique to see. Additionally, there is so much spirit, pride, and commitment to excellence displayed by students and staff that you can't help but want to be a part of the Texas Tech family.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love that there is never a day that is the same as another. There is always something new and exciting going on. More specifically, I love serving on a couple of the exciting committees offered by University Student Housing. Through these committees not only do I get the chance to grow professionally, but have the opportunity to be a part of making decisions that have positive impacts on students and staff.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would describe University Student Housing as a family oriented department that strives to provide optimal customer service through a unique educational curriculum and friendly staff while creating an environment that not only fosters learning but becomes a true home-away-from-home for our residents and family environment for staff.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Lubbock is a wonderful community that invests itself in Texas Tech and supports the students and staff of the institution. There is a little something for everyone! I love the First Friday Art Trail, the Moonlight Musicals in the summer and the convenience of the layout of the layout of the city.

The Manager for Academic Initiatives, as an educator, works with Assistant Directors for Residence Education & Academic Programs in providing direction for academic initiatives, implementing initiatives focused on student learning and academic success, supporting and developing learning communities, developing and implementing the Freshman Interest Group (FIG) program and supporting student retention through the MAP-Works program.

I love the school pride! The students here love their institution and are very passionate about their traditions.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

The best part of my job is the opportunity that I have to collaborate with other departments. It is very interesting to see what projects other departments support and how my job contributes to those initiatives.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

Our department follows the philosophy "work hard, play hard" in most situations. Like every housing program there are times that are extremely busy but, I enjoy that we don't always take ourselves too seriously. And we like to have fun!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love the weather and the community. Lubbock has plenty to do- museums, great shopping, and nature activities. You just have to leave campus and find those things you love.

The Manager for Student Intervention (MSI), as an educator, works with the Assistant Director for Residence Education and Academic Programs to provide case management and direction for student intervention initiatives and prevention programming for residents living on the Texas Tech campus. The MSI assists with the development of comfortable living and learning communities that foster academic success, and also assists individuals with their personal needs and concerns.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

Everything. I love the atmosphere, the campus, and the people. The Raider pride is very infectious. It's easy to want to be a Red Raider when you're surrounded by so many positive and excited people.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy the relationships that I can build with students. Students are my first priority and my goal is to be able to assist students in achieving their short term personal goals so that they can accomplish their long term career goals. I see my position as a character development position, one that can assist students not only with their academic self, but primarily with their personal self.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

In a word: opportunity. University Student Housing at Texas Tech is such a great place to grow as a professional. The experiences that we have here will involve you with every aspect of the university. The staff works well together and are extremely friendly and helpful. We are a customer service oriented department and being here to serve is what we do.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Lubbock is a cool town. It has a small town feel to it but it has everything you will ever need. Coming from a very small town of 22,000 people I was little concerned about the jump I would be making to 300,000 people, but Lubbock still feels very comfortable. Everyone is so nice and helpful in Lubbock.
