Residence Hall Coordinators for the Halls

University Student Housing at Texas Tech University promotes each student's learning experience by creating safe, supportive learning environments for academic and personal success. University Student Housing is committed to the total development of the resident within an inclusive community through student leadership opportunities, programming, residence hall standards, and supportive learning environments in the residence halls.

The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC), as an educator, works to provide direction for student learning and academic success by managing/co-managing a residence hall and coordinating the administrative, supervisory, and programmatic efforts for an educational area of one to three buildings housing 500 – 1,100 students. As a live-in staff member of University Student Housing, the Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for the development of comfortable living and learning communities that foster academic success. This is achieved by assisting individuals with their personal needs and concerns, supervising student support staff, and advising student leadership groups.

Jaclyn Austin

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the campus environment. Everyone is so friendly, welcoming, and willing to help in any way they can.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love the challenge of creating new initiatives and continuing what has already been started while making it better. I'm able to take what I'm doing and make it my own while still keeping the Texas Tech spirit.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The department really is a big family. We spend so much time together. You learn so many things about everyone you work with. I don't worry about whether or not I have support from my coworkers, I know that I do.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love being able to find different things to do everywhere I look, whether it's trying new restaurants every weekend or going to a clay class with my friends. I'm never without options.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I greatly enjoy the people I get to work with. The open and welcoming community has helped to make my transition much more enjoyable.

I enjoy being able to play a role in making students successful.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would talk mostly about the open and welcoming environment of USH. I have yet to encounter anyone who is not willing to welcome you and help you in any way they can.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Still being fairly new, I do not have an exhaustive list. However, I do enjoy the wealth of dining options offered by Lubbock.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the school spirit and the energy on campus. It is easy to tell that everyone is proud to be a Red Raider and it creates such an awesome and supportive environment. I love being a part of the Red Raider family!

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love working with so many different students throughout the year. It is great to be able to help students get the resources they need on campus to assist them in being successful. I love to watch them grow throughout the year. I really enjoy being able to help provide a supportive and inclusive community for our students in University Student Housing.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

University Student Housing at Texas Tech is a very encouraging department. Everyone here wants to help one another to grow as professionals in the Student Affairs world and see success for individuals and the USH team. Simply put, everyone on this team will always have your back.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

One thing that I really love about living in Lubbock is the people here. Everyone is kind and genuinely cares to know how your day is. I also really like that it is a big city with a small town feel. It is really great to be in a community that supports its university so much.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The welcoming and helpful atmosphere. Everyone is so intentional about making sure you feel appreciated and supported.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

The opportunity to connect with a diverse group of students and gain professional development experiences.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

It is an amazing place to work as a new professional because of the support and developmental opportunities. The USH staff makes you feel supported and will work around the clock to ensure you have the resources that you need. Additionally, there are so many opportunities to participate in committees that will enhance your development as a professional.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

The local coffee shops! They always have delicious pastries available if you need a treat for the weekend.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The branding is amazing to me! I love how focused in everyone is on the double T, Raider Red, and everything red and black. The pride students show in their university really draws outsiders in and it's awesome to see so many people stand behind one thing.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love helping others and helping to improve their day. Working with students and student leaders can be challenging at times, but when they have a good day, I have a good day as well. It's exciting to take a student from unmotivated or unsure to excited and passionate about something.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would describe USH as student-centered. Customer service is the number one priority here and it's great to see everyone in the department working together towards that goal. Everyone is very understanding and excited to work with people, new and returning!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

It's the biggest town I've lived in since high school! There are so many little shops or restaurants to explore and find. A lot of people have a lot of different favorite spots and it's fun to hear all there is to do. People may describe the town as small, but it's also pretty mighty. It can stand on its own. I also love how nice everyone is, on campus and in the community!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love that everywhere you look at Tech the Double T can be found. There is so much pride here, I honestly cannot compare it to any other experience I have had. I also love the traditions. Texas Tech has so many rich traditions and I love learning about each individual one.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love working with the students, the student staff, and the amazing professional staff. I have the opportunity to develop students and see their growth from move-in to graduation. As far as the professional staff, I feel that I am supported in every way and I am totally comfortable approaching anyone for help.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

University Student Housing focuses on customer service and the development of the student holistically. We want our students to have the best possible experience in our residence halls and we will do anything we can to make sure they are. The student experience is our main priority.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

For West Texas, there is a lot to do. There are so many places to explore and there really is something that appeals to everyone.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I am particularly fond of the school spirit at Texas Tech. Here we use the ‘guns up' symbol to say hello, and it's nearly impossible to find anyone on campus that bleeds something other than scarlet and black. The school spirit extends to the city. Whether you're in the airport, grocery store, or coffee shop, it's all about Texas Tech and I am thoroughly excited to call this place my home.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love working with the students in each of the residence halls. Every day I get to cultivate leaders, and I am inspired by their dedication, energy, and ambition. As an RLC I get to be a resource for the students. I have the privilege of helping students achieve their lifelong goals, and in the process, I continue to grow.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would describe USH as a family oriented department. We ensure student development and success, but we also make time to attend to one another. Here the worker and the person is taken into consideration. USH is a place that helps you reach your goals and helps you to become a better leader.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I really enjoy the people in Lubbock, Texas. Everyone is down to earth and there is always a park event, musical, or sporting event to go to with your friends. Lubbock also has some of the best food around. You can try a new restaurant every weekend, and around Lubbock, there is always good company.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The home away from home feel that our campus has. The school spirts and pride that our students have. The close-knit community that the University has with the town of Lubbock.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love having the opportunity to work with students and staff. Having the opportunity to work with and supervise student leaders is a passion of mine. I also enjoy having the opportunity to see our students grow from the first day in the fall to the last day in the spring.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The University of Student Housing department is a large department with a small family like feel. The department strives to serve students and guide them to their success at Texas Tech. USH also strives to give their staff the opportunity to learn and grow in their professional journey.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I fully enjoy the close-knit community that Lubbock has and the pride that the community has for Texas Tech. There are lots of great restaurants in Lubbock and you will never go hungry. Finally, I love the music and art culture that Lubbock has and the events they put on for their fellow community members.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

There is a lot to love about Texas Tech! My favorite thing has to be school spirit. It's neat to watch how much pride students, staff, and the community alike have in Tech. There are also many fun things to see and do around campus! Watching the football team is also a big plus, and I really love the lazy river at the rec center.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy working with students and helping them transition to the college environment, seeing them get involved, and becoming successful Red Raiders! I also love working directly with student staff, GHCs, and SBAs and watching them blossom into successful individuals in the workplace and in life. Overall, the number of great opportunities we are afforded here at Tech, and in University Student Housing, are amazing and developmental!

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The first word that comes to mind is family. Everyone in the department cares about their work and serving students and goes the extra mile to ensure success. While we also work really hard in our roles, we take the time to get to know each other outside of work through social opportunists, and often times participate in "West Texas Chit Chat," and act as a big family!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Despite what some people may say, I think that there's actually quite a lot to do in Lubbock. Many fun activities, both indoors and out, await you! I enjoy Prairie Dog Town, finding new bike routes, going to the movies, or venturing out and trying new restaurants (there are hundreds - from familiar chains to local Lubbock gems). I also really appreciate that there's a good majority of the stores from home that I'm used to!

University Student Housing is committed to the total development of the resident within an inclusive community through student government, programming, residence hall standards, and supportive learning environments in the residence halls.

The Residence Life Coordinator for Student Development (RLCSD), as an educator, works with the Assistant Director for Student Leadership Development to provide support for student leadership and development for residents living on the Texas Tech campus. The RLCSD is responsible for the advisement of assigned student leadership groups and associated events, conferences, and training while utilizing effective risk management and assessment practices.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The thing I love most is the amount of school spirit and pride. Everywhere you go on campus or within the Lubbock community, you can spot Double T's, see others giving the ‘Guns Up' signal, or see someone wearing Tech attire. It brings us all together as Red Raiders every day.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love being able to work with energetic and dedicated student leaders on a daily basis. Helping students get involved in leadership roles, find their passion areas, and work towards creating a community within the residence halls are just a few of the things I enjoy about my job. Working with student leadership is always a rewarding adventure!

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

USH is a very welcoming department! I served as an ACUHO-I intern during grad school and fell in love with the student-centered approach as well as the SERVE TECH customer service model. We work hard, play hard, and consider each other family.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

There are plenty of things to do to keep busy in Lubbock—more restaurants than you can imagine, museums, Prairie Dog Town, places to shop, volunteer opportunities, Moonlight Musicals, and the 4th on Broadway festival have been some of my favorite aspects!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the school's Culture and Spirit. It is easy to see how invested students are in the success of the University. I also really appreciate the family environment of the university and its different offices.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy being a part of my students\' educational journey. Developing the "holistic student" allows me to create enriching experiences that will provide students with the tools needed to be successful outside of the college environment.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

Besides being great facilitators of customer service, University Student Housing creates the warm feeling of being home!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love the fact that we are so close to many natural amenities (Palo Duro, Carlsbad Cavern). Lubbock is also a great place to enjoy different music genres, fantastic theater productions, great food, and sports.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

Positivity and education are profoundly important to me and I absolutely adore the focus we place on those two values here at Tech. Here at Tech, I love how encouraged I feel to further my development as a positive person, educator, leader, customer service provider, and helper.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love teaching, it's in my bones. Whether it's in front of a group or in a one-on-one setting I absolutely love that I get to engage students and staff in life-changing conversations daily. On top of that, I love social justice, and I feel profoundly blessed that I get to share that love with others through my position and encourage those around me to learn to love social justice too.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

From my very first phone call with the department, I have always been struck by how incredibly welcome I've been made to feel here at USH. To me, Lubbock really is the friendliest city in the US, and a huge part of that is USH. I have never worked anywhere that felt more positive, more welcoming, more fun, or friendlier than USH here at Tech.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love how beautiful the campus is, whether we're talking about the trees, the buildings, or the public art I absolutely adore walking around this campus. Plus, I'm a huge movie guy and I cannot express how much I have absolutely loved visiting the Alamo theatre here in Lubbock.

I enjoy working with students staff. We create amazing programs to help engage our student body. It is rewarding for me to see and hear students learn and have fun.

University Student Housing here at Texas Tech is willing to bring fresh thinkers and innovators onto their staff. You are always being taught not only through solid training practices but through exposure to amazing colleagues and supervisors.
