As Senior Research Associate in Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Rick Kellison exemplifies the founding principles of Texas Tech University: to advance the science of agriculture and its applications to develop the economy of west Texas. Through his efforts he has educated water users how to promote efficient but profitable water management. Rick has also educated policy-makers in Austin and Washington, D.C. about the impact that Texas Tech projects have had in sustaining west Texas industry. These efforts have brought regional, national and even international recognition to the role Texas Tech is playing in meeting the critical issues of declining groundwater. Evidence as this was Rick's invitation to present the results of the Texas Alliance for Water Conservation at the 22nd International Grassland Congress in Sydney, Australia and at the annual Amsterdam Denim Days in the Netherlands. Rick's high standards, can-do attitude, and organizational skills raise the bar for all involved in Texas Alliance for Water Conservation research and their mission to promote the efficient use of water in the Texas High Plains.
