AS100 - Active Shooter Training
Course Description
By the end of this class, participants will be able to:
- Formulate an understanding of the definition of an active shooter and a brief history of active shooter events
- Recognize possible early warning signals of an active shooter
- Learn what to do when an active shooter event happens in or outside of your residence hall or workplace
- Learn what to do when police arrive to stop the active shooter
HRS400 - I-9, Immigration, and Payment Processing
Course Description
An Introduction for TTU Employment Services Coordinators (ESC). This class is an overview of procedures to be followed and instructions to be given to new employees as they complete the required forms for starting a job at TTU. Also included is background information concerning nonresident aliens who will be employed or contracted for service, and the subsequent payment and taxation issues.
Who should attend? This class is required for any individual designated as ESC or alternate. Supervisors of ESCs and alternates should attend to understand the challenges faced by their employees and the penalties which might be assessed the department for noncompliance with state and federal guidelines.
IAC101 - Cover Your Assests: Control Environment and Cash Handling
Course Description
Participants will learn the "red flags" of fraud and how a well-designed control environment can provide reasonable assurance in preventing fraud while also assisting Texas Tech departments in the achievement of their operational, financial, and administrative objectives.
This workshop will help participants understand internal controls and how to effectively balance risks and controls. A portion of the workshop will address specific controls and Institutional requirements related to cash handling including receipts processing, deposit preparation, and safeguarding of funds.
Who should attend? This class is designed for employees with the responsibility of ensuring organizational goals are accomplished as well as employees involved in the processes of receipting or depositing funds. Administrators, managers, supervisors, cashiers and clerks are highly encouraged to attend.
IAC400 - Fraud Prevention
Course Description
Participants attending this workshop will learn about common fraud schemes facing universities and how "red flags" of fraud can be used to aid in the university's fraud prevention efforts.
This workshop will teach participants how to identify, detect, and prevent fraud during the course of their normal job duties. The workshop explains how and why fraud occurs and how the participant can help with fraud prevention. Participants will also learn what controls can be put in place to prevent the occurrence of fraud in their department.
Who should attend? This class is designed for employees with the responsibility of ensuring organizational goals are accomplished as well as employees involved in any facet of the financial operations of the university, including persons making or authorizing expenditures, handling cash or other funds, processing HR transactions, reconciling procurement card logs, or reconciling Banner accounts. College and departmental business managers, clerks, administrative business assistants, and account processors, as well as their supervisors, are highly encouraged to attend.
The course is approximately 1 1/2 hours in duration.
MGT150 - Fraud Prevention
Course Description
The TTUS and TTU require, as a condition of initial and continued employment, that employees be free from the influence of alcohol and controlled substances. In departments where employees are required to submit to drug-testing, supervisors are charged with the responsibility of identifying when substance abuse might be occurring. At a minimum, the department must provide 60 minutes of training on drug and alcohol abuse by a qualified substance abuse professional to all supervisors who may be involved in determining if reasonable suspicion exists to require an employee to take an alcohol or drug test. No supervisor shall determine if reasonable suspicion exists without the completion of the required training. It is the responsibility of each employing department requiring security-sensitive Level II and/or CDL safety-sensitive positions to follow the policies and procedures set forth in OP 70.35. It is recommended that supervisors refresh their training once every two years.
SAFE603 - Asbestos Awareness
Course Description
TTU Asbestos Awareness Training is a two-hour class covering the uses and forms of asbestos in buildings, health effects of exposure to asbestos, potential locations of asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM), recognition of deteriorating or damaged ACBM's, and persons responsible for the management of ACBM's.
Who should attend?
- All members of any construction, custodial, maintenance, renovation design, and utility service departments should attend.
- New employees working in the departments mentioned should take the class within the first month of employment and the refresher class (SAFE613) annually thereafter.

SAFE613 - Asbestos Awareness Refresher
Course Description
Asbestos Awareness Training Annual Refresher is a 30-minute class providing updated information regarding the forms of asbestos in buildings, health effects of exposure to asbestos, potential locations of asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM), recognition of deteriorating or damaged ACBM's, and persons responsible for the management of ACBM's.
Who should attend? All members of any construction, custodial, maintenance, renovation design, and utility service departments should attend. The course is an annual requirement if you work in the disciplines mentioned above.

SAFE640 - Forklift Training
Course Description
The initial/refresher Forklift Training is a three-hour class that will cover general forklift procedures. Forklift Training at TTU is mandatory and requires both classroom and hands-on driving test.
Employees who have not had Forklift Training before will be required to perform the hands-on driving test.
Employees completing the course as a refresher attend only the morning session.
The classroom portion of the training is three hours in length and will start at 8:30 a.m. at Environmental Health and Safety in the conference room (ASC-118), located in the Administrative Support Building.
The hands-on training will start at 1:30 p.m. and will also be about three hours in length. The hands-on portion of the training takes place in the parking lot west of KTXT.
Who should attend? This class is required by 29 CFR 1910 for all forklift operators at Texas Tech University. Refresher training is required every three (3) years.
SAFE650 - Forklift Training Refresher
Course Description
The refresher Forklift Training is a three-hour class that will cover general forklift procedures. Employees completing the course as a refresher attend only the morning session. Employees must have previously completed SAFE 640.
The classroom portion of the training is three hours in length and will start at 8:30 a.m. at Environmental Health and Safety in the conference room (ASC-118), located in the Administrative Support Building.

SAFE700 - Radiation Safety
Course Description
For all individuals who plan to work in a radiation use/storage area.
TTU Radiation Safety Training is a review of basic principles and practice of radiation protection. This class provides information that relates directly to the Texas Tech University radiation-use program.
Radiation Safety Training is conducted in 2 phases:
- Phase I (Radiation Basics) is on a CD that is checked out through EH&S. Phase I of training must be completed prior to taking Phase II.
- Phase II is a lecture given in room 122 of the Administrative Support Center (ASC). Seating and CDs are limited, so please make your reservations as soon as possible.
Who should attend? All individuals who plan to work in a radiation use/storage area.

SAFE810 - HAZMAT Training
Course Description
The HAZMAT class is a one day class that will cover the aspects of proper shipping practices for hazardous materials.
We will show the proper way to package, label, write a chain of custody, and ship hazardous material in compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Who should attend? This class is for any Texas Tech University employees that ship, or will be shipping, any type of hazardous material. This includes anyone who sends out samples. Training is federally mandated for those who do ship hazardous materials. Failure to have such training could result in penalties.
