Addictive Disorders
& Recovery Studies

The Department of Applied Professional Studies, The Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery, and the College of Arts and Sciences jointly offer an interdisciplinary minor in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies. This minor provides students with an understanding of the physiological, psychological, societal, and familial factors contributing to addiction and the recovery from addiction. Serving Students and the Community

The mission of the Department of Applied and Professional Studies (APS) is to serve students and the community by offering quality education in applied human services delivered by world-class faculty teaching in distinguished programs. Opportunities are available to collaborate with faculty members in research; to experience different aspects of programs through internships, classroom apprenticeships, and independent studies; and to participate in student organizations and activities.

The APS department relates to the Center for Financial Responsibility, the Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery, the Family Therapy Clinic, and the Curriculum Center for Family and Consumer Sciences.

Providing family therapy to seriously ill children and their families consistently enhances medical outcomes and increases the overall mental health for adolescent patients, family and treatment professionals, Texas Tech Marriage and Family Therapy faculty found through a unique partnership integrating family counseling as part of medical treatment.
