About T3

Transforming through Transition is a new program that incorporates the leadership and wellness orientation of both the BMI and UFL curricula. This project is focused on preparing middle school students for a successful transition into high school as individuals and as a cohort.

Emerging Program

The Transforming through Transition project was developed as a response to a regional education initiative to prepare middle school students for a successful transition to high school as individuals and as a cohort. Utilizing a curriculum which integrates the leadership and wellness orientation of the BMI and UFL curricula, our model stimulates positive growth in two dimensions of a secondary school learning community (students and their adult support system).

In the first dimension, this change is recognized through expanded self-efficacy for learning achievement, comprehensive wellness, and higher levels of the developmental assets necessary for healthy adulthood. In the second dimension, the adult support system (faculty/staff, transition team, and community leaders) receive training and support to lead the students but also to experience their own personal growth (expanded self-efficacy as guides for learning, self-care for sustained effectiveness, and the development of professional competencies).

The student cohorts in this study will be followed throughout high school to track their development across academics as well as mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Information gained from the project will guide the design and planning for additional outreach and support programs for youth, families, and youth professionals.
