Interviewing Tips
Three Simple Steps
Three Simple Steps to a Successful Interview:
- Prepare
- Practice
- Sell
Prepare
- Understand and know yourself. What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? What are your goals?
- Be knowledgeable about the position, organization, and company.
Practice
- Conduct "mock" interviews. Contact a career counselor to schedule a one-on-one interview; ask your family or friends to help with the same.
- Practice your responses. View sample questions here.
Sell
- Many interviewers will ask: "Tell me a little about yourself". Use this opportunity to sell your skills, abilities & qualifications.
- Be positive, enthusiastic, and show a strong interest in the position. There is no substitute for the first impression you make.
- Be prepared for sensitive questions such as, "Tell me about your greatest weakness." First and foremost, be honest. We all have areas in need of development. Always include, however, specific examples of how you are working to improve this area.
First Impressions are Crucial!
- Dress Appropriately.
- Be early.
- Turn off your cell phone
- Be respectful and courteous.
