ADM Program Installed 3D Body Scanner
Advanced Measurement Technology
We installed a [TC]² 3D body scanner, an advanced technology, in last summer and our students will use the advanced technology in our apparel manufacturing class.
A 3D body scanner captures a human body, using an optical technique in combination with light sensitive devices, without physical contact. A person usually wears form-fitting briefs or running shorts during the process. It takes less than a minute to scan a person. It provides the body shape image with an unlimited number of measurements for apparel manufacturers to produce garments or for customers to find a right size.
The 3D body scan technology is already being used in Levi’s for measuring customers’ body sizes, Marks and Spencer for custom-fit suits in London, and Brooks Brothers for fast customization of men’s suits. This technology has been used for national sizing surveys such as SizeUSA in 2003 and SizeUK in 2002.
Related to fit and size issues using 3D body scan, the following articles can be downloaded from each journal website.
