Mission statement
The Department of Design (DOD) provides the highest standards of excellence in higher education in the fields of apparel design, interior design and environmental design, while contributing to new knowledge in these areas through design education, meaningful research and community outreach.
Vision Statement
The Department of Design will:
- Give priority to research and related scholarly activities;
- Contribute to new knowledge and understanding of design issues through Cooperative, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary efforts;
- Seek opportunities to exchange knowledge and ideas with industry and Communities; and
- Be recognized and valued as exemplary programs in each area.
Goals
Goal 1
- Recruit, retain and graduate an academically prepared and diverse student body in the areas of Apparel Design, Interior Design and Environmental Design.
Goal 2
- Increase and effectively use resources to recruit and retain quality faculty and staff and to support an optimal work environment.
Goal 3
- Provide effective instruction in the undergraduate programs.
Goal 4
- Enhance graduate and professional education.
Goal 5
- Provide scholarly outreach opportunities that contribute to students’ learning and that benefit our communities, the state, and nation.
Goal 6
- Increase the college of human sciences participation in cutting edge research that positively impacts individuals, families, and their environment.
Goal 7
- Develop strategic partnership and alliances within the College of Human Sciences and Texas Tech University as well as with the communities, businesses and industries that disseminate knowledge and skills and enhance the quality of life.
