Dr. Shin is the Program Director of Apparel Design and Manufacturing (ADM) and Associate Professor at Texas Tech University, teaching Computer Applications for Apparel Design (CAD), Introduction to Apparel Design, Fashion Illustration, and Apparel Manufacturing. Dr. Shin received her doctorate from North Carolina State University in Textile & Apparel, Technology & Management, and conducted research utilizing CAD and 3D body scan technology for “standardization and automation of garment production” funded by National Textile Center. She is an active sub-committee member of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), related to apparel technology and production standardization. She has served as a reviewer of Textile Research Journal, a professional member of International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA), and Human Factor & Ergonomics Society (HFES).
Her expertise is in textiles, apparel manufacturing, and statistical analysis of anthropometry data, qualitative data analysis, human factors, sizing systems, 3D body scan, 3D virtual design, fit assessment, and therapeutic clothing for special populations, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and the elderly with Alzheimer's diseases.
Her research and publications have been presented at international and national conferences, including International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA), Textile Institute (TI), International Association of Universities for Textiles, International Fiber Conference, and International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI). Her articles appear in peer reviewed journals: International Journal of Consumer Studies, Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management Clothing, International Journal of Human Ecology, Journal of Textile and Apparel Technology and Management, International Journal of Fashion Design, Technology and Education, Fashion and Textile Research Journal, Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, International Journal of Clothing Science and Technology.
