Department of Design
Dear Prospective Students,
Welcome to the Department of Design, one of the five departments of the College of Human Sciences at Texas Tech University. We appreciate your interest and hope you will take some time to learn more about our undergraduate programs; Apparel Design and Manufacturing (ADM) and Interior Design (ID) as well as the graduate programs in Interior and Environmental Design (ENVD/IED).
As we move towards the Tier I status, our vision aims at being distinguished in the Interior Design program for evidence-based design and collaboration that addresses the needs of a global society to promote health, safety, and welfare. Likewise, we strive to be recognized in the Apparel Design and Manufacturing program for creativity and technological innovation.
Our Interior and Environmental Design graduate program, based on an environment-behavior paradigm, is the sole design doctoral program in the state of Texas. In 2006, the program was ranked sixth by Design Intelligence (DI) and continues to grow and attract distinguished faculty and graduate domestic and international students.
We are entering a new global era which holds much promise for the design discipline. Our department provides students with the appropriate pedagogic tools to achieve this unique learning experience, including interdisciplinary collaboration, internships, study abroad, professional tours, design competitions, and research publications. I am delighted about our ambitious and expanding prospects and I look forward to a future full of success and excellence.
As you peruse our website, should you have more questions please do not hesitate to contact our program directors. They can be reached by phone at 806.742.3050 or via e-mail.
