FAQ For Parents

  1. My child attends the YWCA Head Start Program, does he or she have to be a part of this study?
    • Participating in this project is completely up to you. Your child is not required to participate. Whether or not you participate won’t influence you or your child’s relationship with the Head Start.
  2. How long does each assessment take?
    • Each assessment takes anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. The length of time depends on your child. We conduct assessments during free play time so that your child doesn’t miss any of the curriculum.
  3. What will you do with my child’s data?
    • Your child’s data is going to be only used for research purposes. After we collect the data we will remove your child’s name, so that nobody will know the responses belong to your child. In any report we may publish we will not include individual responses, only group level data (like the number of children answering a question correct or average language score) will be reported.
You and your child’s privacy and confidentiality is VERY important to us.
  4. I agreed to let my child participate, does that mean I have to complete the parent survey?
    • Completing the parent survey is up to you. Having this information will help us meet our project goals, so we encourage parents to complete the survey if they feel comfortable doing so. The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
  5. I lost my parent survey, can I get a new one?
    • Yes! Please let the research student in your child’s classroom know and she can get you a new survey. You can also contact us at ttu.elm@gmail.com to obtain a new survey.
  6. I mailed my parent survey but haven’t received my $10.
    • Please contact our project manager, Francisco Debaran right away. He can be reached at 742-3000 x291 or by email at francisco.b.debaran@ttu.edu.
  7. Does the school get anything for participating in this project?
    • The school will be receiving a donation of $5 for every child that participates, up to a $700 donation each academic year. The school will still receive this donation if you decide not to complete the parent survey or if your child withdraws from the project.
