Bachelor of Science

The Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Certification program meets Texas standards for the Family and Consumer Sciences Composite Certificate and is designed for students planning careers in middle, junior high, and senior high schools; extension education; educational support services such as curriculum development and media; business training and development; human service agencies; and a variety of other fields. The program includes course work in all human sciences content areas and the professional education courses required for teacher certification.

Admission to the teacher certification program requires completion of 60 semester hours with an overall 2.5 GPA and a satisfactory level of performance on the TASP test or equivalent. Other program requirements include a minimum 2.5 GPA on professional education courses and courses in the teaching specialization and a grade of C or better in all required specialization and support courses. To be recommended for certification, graduates must achieve a satisfactory level of performance on the prescribed state certification examinations.

Note: Students also may earn a Family and Consumer Sciences Composite Certificate with a major in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) The Department of Nutrition, Hospitality, and Retailing offers programs leading to a Family and Consumer Sciences Specialized Certificate in Hospitality, Nutrition and Food Science.(NHR)

All Texas Tech teacher certification programs are approved by the State Board for Educator Certification and accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.
