Certificate Options

The State approved certificate structure for Family and Consumer Sciences includes three types of certificates:

  • Family & Consumer Sciences Composite Certificate
  • Family & Consumer Sciences Specialized Certificate in Hospitality, Nutrition, and Food Science
  • Family & Consumer Sciences Specialized Certificate in Human Development and Family Studies

The FCS Composite Certificate is a comprehensive credential that certifies an individual to teach all 35 FCS courses offered in Texas secondary schools. Secondary courses are offered in the following content areas:

  • Family and Child Development
  • Food production and service
  • Hospitality and tourism
  • Housing and interior design
  • Nutrition and food science
  • personal finance and consumer economics
  • Textiles and apparel

The FCS Specialized Certificate in Hospitality, Nutrition, and Food Science certifies an individual to each 7 different courses offered in Texas secondary schools in the content areas of hospitality, nutrition, and food science.

The FCS Specialized Certificate in Human Development and Family Studies certifies an individual to teach 12 different courses offered in Texas secondary schools in the content areas of human development and family studies.
