Departmental Graduate Courses and MS Degree
Supervised experiences are held Tuesday-Friday, with a variable work schedule. In some occasions, interns may be expected at the facilities during a week-end. Interns may enroll in selected graduate courses on Monday or evenings. The internship class meets on Monday during the fall and spring semesters.
A total of 39 semester hours (non-thesis option) or 33 semester hours (thesis option) is required for the completion of the Master of Science degree. The practicum portion of the Dietetic Internship (NS 5601), carries a total of 6 hours credit towards the MS degree. Course work taken during the internship is included in the total credit hours towards a degree completion. While a student typically remains at the university two to four additional semesters, there are some distance education options to facilitate degree completion. With approval, transfer credits up to six hours from another institution may be considered as a substitution for additional courses, excluding courses not assigned a letter grade. A 3.0 average is required to successfully complete the degree plan. Required classes will begin the second summer term, which begins in early July. The internship supervised experiential rotations begin with the fall semester. An orientation is scheduled for the week before the fall semester begins.
