Retail Management 2350 Shadow Box Displays

The Retail Promotion class, RTL 2350, design and exhibit shadow box displays each semester. In many store interiors, small niche areas are used to display merchandise and are called shadow boxes. With this idea, the retail management students use a 2 foot tall display board as the backdrop and then create a table display using core design strategies such as color, proportion and texture. Everyone is invited to a two -day exhibition of the displays in the Canyon Room of the Human Sciences College. The students vote on the top two displays for each of the two days. According to instructor Mrs. Valerie Hlavaty, the project then prepares them for a later project of actually designing an in-store display for a retailer.
