Two Human Sciences undergraduate students were elected to the Texas Tech Phi Beta Kappa chapter last week in a ceremony in the Allen Theatre on campus. Though Phi Beta Kappa is an organization in the liberal arts and sciences, students from Human Sciences are eligible if they have substantial course work in the Arts & Sciences. {read more}

Governor Rick Perry has appointed Yvonne M. Caldera of Lubbock to the Early Childhood Intervention Advisory Committee. The committee is part of the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, which serves Texas families with infants and toddlers with disabilities or developmental delays. {read more}

The Christine DeVitt and Helen DeVitt Jones Child Development Research Center (CDRC) today announced their renewed accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals. The CDRC, located on the Texas Tech campus, is one of the first early childhood programs in the nation to earn the new higher-standard accreditation status. {read more}

The College of Human Sciences Early Head Start Program honored the Lubbock Housing Authority (LHA) and the Lubbock Health Department (LHD) at the First Annual Pooh Awards Ceremony; it also honored Early Head Start parents, who are a vital part of the day-to-day activities within the program. {read more}
Fall 2007
In the fall of 2007, Tech Council on Family Relations (TechCFR) co-sponsored the fourth annual Festival of Nations in conjunction with International Education and Outreach K-12 in the College of Education. International students and members of the community were recruited to represent 27 different countries. This event was advertised to all Lubbock public schools, the Home School Association, and the Children's Research Center as a family event. Over 250 children and adults came to learn more about the various countries, view unique country-related items, and collect flag stamps from the different countries for their "passports." There were also opportunities to try various international instruments, and to watch dance and singing performances. {view images}
