Retail Management

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Texas Tech University Retail Management Program is to prepare individuals who will make a contribution to the retail industry and to society as a whole through quality education, research, and service.


Two New Tracks

The Retail Management program is now offering two tracks to better meet the needs of Texas Tech Retail Students and the retail community by focusing on the specific skills needed at the store or operations level or at the corporate level. Students may choose a single track or complete both tracks.

Store Management Track:
RHIM 3320 Facilities Management
RTL 3380 Retail Buying (no lab) or RHIM 4313 Legal Aspects of the Hospitality Industry
RHIM 3345 Event Management or RHIM 3308 Hotel Group Sales and Services

Corporate/Research Track:
RTL 3380 Retail Buying and Control (with Lab)
RTL 4320 Retail Category Management
RTL 4330 Retailing Research


International Retailing

Thirty graduate and undergraduate students accompanied by Dr. Deborah Fowler spent two weeks in May in Paris, London, Barcelona, and Madrid. The students were enrolled in RTL 3340, International Retailing, and RTL 5343, Advanced International Retailing. Some of highlights included visiting the Palace of Versailles, Fondation Yves Saint Laurent, a day trip to London, and the Museo del Traje in Madrid. In Paris we met with designer Alexis Mabille while touring the Linen Dream Lab in Paris. On May 18th we took the Eurostar to London for the day watching the changing of the guard, touring Harrod's Department Store, and the stores on Oxford Street. We met with the director of MP Select, a team, a team assisting retailers and vendors in the international fashion luxury market. {see photos here}

Retail Management

Students Visit: Modular Development & Store Layout

Graduate retail management students have completed macro space projects for the past three years for Walmart. The projects were hardware and paint (2009), cosmetics (2010), and deli (2011). The students begin the project early may and present at the home office in Bentonville in August. In addition to the presentation, students interview for corporate-level positions, attend seminars, and tour facilities.

Events
Fashion Camp 2012

Learn the "ins" and "outs" of the fashion world. Fashion 2012 will be available in two sessions for age 10 to age 18.
