Industry Board

The purpose of the Retail Management Industry Board at Texas Tech is to bring the real retail world onto the Texas Tech campus. We have four major objectives in developing an Industry Board, we want our students to:

  1. Hear from successful individuals in the field of retailing.
  2. Build a strong relationship with the cotton community.
  3. Have opportunities to network with professionals so they develop poise and confidence in professional settings.
  4. Aspire to work with the best companies in the world.

The Cotton Board

The Cotton Board administers and oversees the activities of the Cotton Research and Promotion Program. The Cotton Board contracts with Cotton Incorporated to conduct the activities of the Program. Cotton Incorporated works with all areas of the cotton supply chain from producers, mills, importers, brands and retailers to increase the demand for and profitability of cotton. The Program is financed exclusively by U.S. cotton producers and U.S. brands and retailers.

An advocate for High Plains cotton growers since 1956, Plains Cotton Growers has been tackling the tough issues facing cotton growers for more than 50 years. Through the years PCG has been instrumental in bringing needed economic relief to High Plains cotton growers through beneficial legislative and regulatory changes. 4H Farms has grown to become a 6,000 acre cotton producing operation located in southern Lubbock County and northern Lynn County near US Highway 87. Lance and Doug Hlavaty are owners and partners of 4H farms. They strategically manage production for 12 landowners. Their mission is to produce the most cotton per acre of the highest quality, while conserving the important resource of water and caring for the land.

Now in its 97th year of operation, United Supermarkets, LLC is a Texas-based, family-owned grocery chain with stores in 30 markets across north and west Texas. A self-distributing company with its headquarters in Lubbock and distribution centers in Lubbock and Roanoke, United currently operates 51 stores under four distinct formats: United Supermarkets, Market Street, Amigo and and United Express.More than 10,000 Team Members keep the company focused daily on its mission of Ultimate Service, Superior Performance, Positive Impact, and the company earmarks 10 percent of its pretax profits each year to charitable causes in the communities it serves.

Max Ludwig is the senior director of prototype development for Walmart U.S. He is responsible for developing and optimizing the building prototypes used in the new store development process.

Max joined Walmart in 1992 and has served in many roles across the Walmart business. He has had many career advancement opportunities throughout the years. He began as an hourly associate in the stores performing such roles as cart pusher, stockman, sales floor associate, cashier, receiving associate, and department manager. Upon graduating from Texas Tech, he joined the internal audit team and over a six year period of time performed many different roles such as staff auditor, staff auditor II, and senior auditor over the Texas regional office. Max then transitioned into the role of district manager in the optical division. As district manager, he opened 38 vision centers in the states of Texas and Louisiana. After two years, he returned to internal audit as the Southeast division regional manager. In September of 2005, Max joined store layout and has held various roles within the department including director macro space, director category space, and his current role of senior director.

In 1993 Max received his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University in Business Administration. He currently lives in Rogers, Arkansas with his wife and two children.
