In addition to studying food preparation, food service management, beverage control, hospitality law, travel, tourism, and hotel operations, you will also take a number of business based courses, such as accounting, management, marketing, and personnel administration. Other course areas include science, economics, mathematics, and computers.
You will have access to excellent classrooms, laboratories, and restaurant and food service facilities that provide experiences in quality food production and management. Students also have numerous opportunities for on-the-job training with local businesses and industries cooperating in the program.
Graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management (RHIM) have excellent career opportunities. The demand is great for qualified management personnel with specialized knowledge in the hospitality field. The steady business growth in this area is expected to continue regardless of the state of the economy - indeed, for the last number of years tourism has been the number one industry in Texas. Graduates now hold management positions in restaurants, hotels, resorts, and a variety of business and institutional settings.
