RESTAURANT, HOTEL AND INSTITUTIONAL MANAGEMENT
The RHIM Graduate Faculty combine content knowledge, industry experience, professional consultation, and active research programs. The interests of the RHIM graduate faculty include:
Hospitality education and training. Human resource management in hospitality with emphasis on workplace issues.
Financial analysis and quantitative techniques in the hospitality industry.
Restaurant consumer acceptability of existing and innovative menu items with an emphasis on meat sources. Nutrition education and training in non-commercial foodservice operations.
Marketing research in the wine industry Students interested in a particular area of research are encouraged to meet with faculty to discuss projects of mutual interest.
Research Facilities:
The RHIM Program has access to a variety of facilities in which research can be conducted which includes Skyviews Restaurant, a 120-seat upscale restaurant laboratory managed by the RHIM program. These well equipped facilities provide graduate students with the opportunity to collect data from either the general public or from prescreened study participants. Of additional interest is the Texas Wine Marketing Research Institute which is affiliated with the program. Research opportunities are also available in area hotels, restaurants, and non-commercial foodservice operations.
The College of Human Sciences, in which the RHIM Program is based, operates a Computer Learning Center (CLC). In addition to maintaining up-to-date microcomputer hardware and software, the CLC designates special services and facilities for graduate students of the college. Graduate students also have access to the university's main computer system, the Internet, and e-mail.
The Texas Tech University Library maintains a collection of current industry-related journals and books and is one of two Regional Depositories for U.S. Government Documents in Texas. More than 500 on-line and CD-ROM databases can be accessed by graduate students.
