Latha Ramalingam, Ph.D.

Latha Ramalingam joined the NIOR lab and the Obesity Research Cluster as a postdoctoral fellow in the Nutritional Science Department at Texas Tech University. She graduated from Vellore Institute of Technology, India with a master's degree in Biotechnology and got her Ph.D in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Indiana University, School of Medicine. Her research focused on investigating molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of insulin secretion and insulin action by Doc2b and SNARE proteins using pancreatic beta cells, muscle cells, and in vivo mouse models. She was recently promoted to Research Assistant Professor under the mentorship of Dr Naima Moustaid-Moussa. Her research focus is on human obesity and diabetes and the role of the Renin Angiotensin System and bioactive food components (such as omega 3 fatty acids) in beta cells and fat cell-beta cell interactions.
