President's Excellence in Diversity and Equity Awards

The President's Excellence in Diversity and Equity Awards recognize Texas Tech faculty, staff, and students for their contributions in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence at Texas Tech. Faculty, staff, and students who go above and beyond their roles in promoting a welcoming campus climate, fostering a campus community of mutual respect, academic and intellectual inquiry and freedom. Since the programs inception in 2004, over 60 members of the Texas Tech campus have been recognized. Funding and nominations are governed by Texas Tech Operating Policy 10.15.

Faculty Excellence Fund

The Faculty Excellence Fund supports the hiring of faculty who contribute to the diversity of the University. Each year, the Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement (IDECE) awards more than $250,000 to support new faculty hires, research, and professional development opportunities for faculty. Funding is awarded through partnerships with IDECE and academic units.

College Diversity Development Grants

The purpose of the College Diversity Development Grants is to develop and strengthen partnerships with colleges to leverage funding for programs that have a strong impact on the quality of teaching and learning about diversity. Applications are available in August of each year. The award is for an entire academic year. A $5,000 award is given in October.

Faculty Diversity Development Grants

The purpose of the Faculty Diversity Development Grants is to provide tenure-track and tenured faculty opportunities to advance their scholarship and creative activities necessary for promotion and tenure. The program provides tenure-track and tenured faculty with research support at a critical time in the pre-tenure stage. Award in the amount of $2,000 is made in the form of research stipend. Applications are available in August of each year. The award is for an entire academic year given in October.

Promoting Inclusive Excellence Organization Support

The Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement (IDECE) provides faculty, staff, and student organizations with resources and funding to support a campus climate that celebrates the many cultures and populations that make-up Texas Tech. The program has assisted in the development of organizations such as the Arab-American Faculty Forum, the Chinese Faculty and Staff Association, and the Latino/Hispanic Faculty Staff Association. Awards are given throughout the year until allocated funds are exhausted.

Multicultural Faculty and Staff Association Endowed Scholarship

A $500 scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student, that is a Texas resident and a first generation college student. The student must demonstrate financial need, have completed a minimum of 12 semester credit hours at Texas Tech and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. Applications are available in April of each year. Awards are for an entire academic year with half of the total award given in the fall semester and the remaining half of the award given in the spring semester.

Bidal Aguero Endowed Scholarship

A $500 scholarship awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student that is a graduate of a high school within a 50-mile radius of Lubbock and be enrolled full-time at Texas Tech. The student must be a U.S. citizen, have a minimum GPA of 2.0, and be enrolled full-time at Texas Tech. The student's financial need is considered, but not required. Student with a Business-related major preferred. Applications are available in April of each year. Awards are for an entire academic year with half of the total award given in the fall semester and the remaining half of the award given in the spring semester.

Institutional Diversity Scholarship

A $500 scholarship awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior that is enrolled for a minimum of 12 semester credit hours at Texas Tech and has a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applications are available in April of each year. Awards are for an entire academic year with half of the total award given in the fall semester and the remaining half of the award given in the spring semester.
