“South Plains Regional History Day” Competition

To be held March 7, 2015

K-12 Global Education Outreach has partnered with the Region 17 Service Center, Lubbock ISD, TTU's Department of History and the Honors College to organize the upcoming South Plains Regional History Day competition, which will be held March 7, 2015 at the Region 17 Service Center. Both faculty and graduate students from TTU's Department of History and Honors College will participate as judges for the event.

The competition is part of the National History Day which is a highly regarded academic program for elementary through secondary schools. Each year students conduct research on historical topics related to the competition's annual theme. This year's theme is Leadership and Legacy. Through hands-on experiences and research, students discover the past and learn 21st century skills along the way.

Students from area school districts choose website, documentary, exhibit, paper, or performance categories as a way to demonstrate their knowledge of the annual theme. Up to five winners in each category were chosen at the campus level to compete at regionals. Winners from these contests will compete at regionals for a chance to go to the state competition held in Austin this summer.
