Delegation from Hawassa University in Ethiopia Visits Texas Tech
A high-ranking delegation from Hawassa University in Ethiopia visited Lubbock during 8-11 May.
The visitors were
- Dr. Henok
Chief Executive Director of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and Vice President of HU; - Mr. Edilu
Dean of the College of Law and Governance; and - Mr. Atkilt
Director of Corporate Communications and Marketing, HU.
Located about 170 miles south of Addis Ababa, Hawassa University was established in 2000, although some elements are older, and is now about the size of Texas Tech. In 2015 it was recognized by the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Education as the best University of the year. As part of a tour of several US universities, our guests were here to discuss future collaborations with TTU. During their visit they met with officials in the Health Science Center and the University, including Provost Schovanec, representatives of the Dean's offices of the School of Law and the Whitacre College of Engineering, and the Office of Communications and Marketing, as well as Office of International Affairs personnel. TTU already has an agreement with Hawassa University and the current visit will lead to increased research and education collaborations.
