Program Overview

For Summer 2022, we are inviting students for a 9.0 credit hour, 10-week study abroad experience in the heart of Germany, at the University of Erfurt. The Summer Program in Communication at Erfurt (SPICE) will invite students from Texas Tech, UT-Austin, Oklahoma, and North Dakota State to live and study in Germany, while traveling throughout central Europe. Courses in SPICE will focus on entertainment media, computer-mediated communication, communication ethics, and international communications and public relations (students select two of the four courses). The Faculty-Led Program portion of SPICE is exclusive to Texas Tech students, and will focus on comparative media cultures between Germany and the United States (students will enroll in the Faculty-Led Program and the SPICE program concurrently). While in Germany, students will have ample opportunities to travel, both as part of program-organized trips (to Berlin and Bruges, Belgium among others) as well as travel on their own. Classes meet three days each week, with time in between for students to immersive themselves in German culture and communication. German language skills are not required for this program, as all courses are taught in English.
