Configuring Junk E-Mail Filters in Outlook Web Access (OWA)

This applies if you will be connecting to TechMail via a POP or IMAP client or through Outlook Web Access.

For SPAM filtering to function, you must enable server side filtering first.  For instructions on enabling server side filtering, please click here.

Mail classified as Junk Email by the server will be delivered to your Junk E-Mail folder, accessible via IMAP or Outlook Web Access only.  POP users should regularly visit https://mail.ttu.edu to ensure that you do not miss legitimate messages and to delete junk email so your account does not go over quota.

STEP 1:  Open your web browser and navigate to https://mail.ttu.edu.

STEP 2:  You will prompted for a Username and Password.  Enter your eRaider username and password and click OK.

STEP 3:  You will now be logged into your Outlook Web Access.  At the top, right side of the screen click Options.

STEP 4:  In the Options window, click Junk E-mail.

STEP 5:  If you click Manage Safe Senders List, you will be able to modify the list of people who will never have messages that originate from them treated as Junk E-mail.  You can Add, Edit, and Remove Safe Senders using the buttons on the right.

The check box at the bottom next to Also trust e-mail from my Contacts will always trust anyone that is in your Address Book as well.

STEP 6:  If you click Manage Safe Recipients List, you will be able to modify the list of addresses that you receive E-mail on that shouldn't ever receive Junk E-mail.  This is useful for mailing lists that you receive.

NOTE: Never include your own E-mail address on this list as that will allow anything sent from you to bypass the Junk E-mail filtering.

STEP 7:  If you click Manage Blocked Senders List, you will be able to modify the list of senders that you never want to receive E-mail from.  If an address is on this list, any E-mail sent from that address will be immediately placed into the Junk E-mail folder.  This is a good list to include repeat spam offenders on.

STEP 8:  Once you have finished editing your Junk E-mail lists, click Save.
