Setup TTUnet VPN for Windows 7

STEP 1:  Verify that your TTU Active Directory Account is Active:

  1. Go to https://eraider.ttu.edu and sign in using your eRaider username and password.
     
  2. Under Active Directory Information, verify that your TTU\username (e.g. TTU\jdoe) is set to "Active."

STEP 2:  Configure your VPN client:

  • Please DONOT make any other changes to your configuration than those specified in these instructions.
  • It is VERY important that users install current service packs and critical updates prior to configuring your VPN connection (Microsoft Windows Update).

STEP 1: Click Start and then click Control Panel.

STEP 2: Click Network and Internet.

STEP 3: Open the Network and Sharing Center.

STEP 4: Click Set up a new connection or network.

STEP 5: Click Connect to a workplace, and then click Next.

STEP 6: If presented with the following screen, click Use my Internet connection (VPN).

STEP 7:  Configure the following settings and click Next.

  • Internet address: vpn.ttu.edu
  • Destination name: Any descriptive name you would like, such as "TTUnet VPN".
  • Use a smart card: Uncheck this box.
  • Allow other people to use this connection: If you would like all Windows user accounts on your computer to be able to use this VPN connection, check this box. (Note that this option may require you to enter administrative credentials to proceed.)
  • Don't connect now; just set it up so I can connect later: Checked.

STEP 8: Click Create without entering any information into the fields.

STEP 9: Click Close.

STEP 10: On the task bar, click the network icon.

   

STEP 11: Right-click TTUnet VPN and choose Properties.

STEP 12: Click the Security tab, and configure the following settings.

  • Type of VPN: Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPsec (L2TP/IPSec)
  • Data Encryption: Require encryption (disconnect if server declines)

STEP 13: Click Advanced Settings under "Type of VPN".

STEP 14:Select Use preshared key for authentication and type "TTUnetVPN" as the key. (The key is case-sensitive and should have no spaces.) Click OK when complete.

STEP 15:  On the Security tab, verify that the following check boxes are checked.

  • Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP)
  • Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2)

STEP 16:  Select the Networking tab, highlight Internet Protocol Version 4, and click Properties.

STEP 17: Click Advanced.

STEP 18: Uncheck Use default gateway on remote network and click OK.

NOTE:  Leave the box checked if you plan to access TTU online library resources, or to access both TTU and TTUHSC resources (such as shared calendars).

STEP 19:  Click OK on any remaining open windows to save all  your changes.

STEP 20:  Single-click the network icon located at the bottom-right of the screen. (The appearance of the network icon will vary depending on whether you're connected to a wired network or a wireless network.)

   

STEP 21: Click the network icon and select TTUnet VPN. Then, click Connect.

STEP 22: Configure the following information, and then click Connect.

  • User name: you eRaider username
  • Password: your eRaider password
  • Domain: TTU
  • Save this user name and password for the following users: Set to your personal preference

NOTE:  You are responsible for the use of your eRaider credentials. Do not save your eRaider username and pasword on a shared computer.

Your computer will have a successful connection to the TTUnet network enabling you to access resources not available outside TTUnet.

To Disconnect

STEP 1: Single-click the network icon located at the bottom-right of the screen.

   

STEP 2: Click on the TTUnet VPN connection to highlight it, and then click Disconnect.

 

To Reconnect

STEP 1: Single-click the network icon located at the bottom-right of the screen.

STEP 2: Click on the TTUnet VPN connection to highlight it, and then click Connect.
