Microsoft DreamSpark
Effective September 1, 2008, Texas Tech University students will have professional developer and designer tools available for free download from Microsoft DreamSpark. The DreamSpark program has partnered with Texas Tech University to confirm student status using TTU eRaider accounts, providing instant access to powerful software applications.
Software available includes:
- Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition
- Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition
- Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
- SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
- Expression Studio
- XNA Game Studio 2.0
- Visual C# 2005 Express Edition
- Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition
- Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition
- SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
- Visual Web 2005 Express Edition
- Visual J# 2005 Express Edition
- Virtual PC
What is Microsoft DreamSpark?
DreamSpark is a program set up by Microsoft to provide students with software design and development tools at no charge. It was announced by Bill Gates on February 19, 2008, during a speech at Stanford University. DreamSpark was created to unlock students' creative potential to help them achieve academic and career success.
Student Instructions for Connecting to Microsoft DreamSpark
1. Visit the Microsoft DreamSpark Web page. |

2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Get Started” button. |

3. On the next page, choose a DreamSpark product for free download by clicking on its name. |

4. On the next page, you will be presented with a product description of the software you have chosen to download. To continue towards your desired download, click the “Sign In” button. |

5. DreamSpark downloads are free for TTU students, but Microsoft requires that you first sign in with your existing Windows Live ID. If you do not have a Windows Live ID, click the “Sign Up” link on the right side of the page to create a one. |

6. After signing in with your Windows Live ID, follow the steps listed on the next screen. Step 1 asks you to select your region. Click on the image of North America. |

7. Next complete Step 2 by choosing United States from the country list. |
|
8. Scroll down the list of schools and organizations and select Texas Tech University to complete Step 3. After you have selected Texas Tech University from the list click “Select and Continue”. |

9. At the next screen, type your eRaider username and password and click “Sign In”. |
|
10. You are now ready to download and install powerful software from Microsoft DreamSpark. You should see the following message displayed. |
