Configuring Outlook Express 6 (PC) to Work with the POP/IMAP Exchange Server.

Note:  If Texas Tech University is not your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you will need to setup a VPN connection to TTU in order to use TTU's SMTP servers to send e-mail.  Please click here for instructions on setting up a VPN connection to TTU.


Step 1:  Open Outlook Express and go to Tools and select Email Accounts and click on the Add button and click on the Mail option.

Step 2:  The Internet Connection Wizard will start.  Type in your name as you would like for it to appear when you send emails and click Next.

Step 3:  Type in your Texas Tech University email address. For example, john.doe@ttu.edu and click Next.

Step 4:  Select POP3 in the My incoming mail server is a box.  The Incoming mail (POP3) field should contain mail.ttu.edu, and the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field should contain smtp.ttu.edu.  Now click Next.

Step 5:  The Account name field should contain your username in the form of 'eRaider@ttu.edu', where "eRaider" is your eRaider username.  The Password field should contain your eRaider password.  Once you have entered this information, click Next.

Step 6:  You will now be presented with a Congratulations screen.  Click Finish.

Step 7:  Now, go to Tools and select Accounts.

Step 8:  Select the Account that you just created and click the Properties button.

Step 9:  Click on the Servers tab.  Under Outgoing Mail Server, make sure that the My server requires authentication box is checked.  Now click on the Settings button.

Step 10:  Select the Log on using radio button and then in the Account name: field, enter your eRaider username and then enter your eRaider password in the Password: field and click OK.

Step 11:  Click on the Advanced tab and check the box by This server requires a secure connection (SSL) for Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3)

Step 12:   Click OK, and then click Close

Step 1:

The Account name field should contain your username in the form of 'eRaider@ttu.edu', where "eRaider" is your eRaider username.  The Password field should contain your eRaider password.  Once you have entered this information, click Next.
 

 


Step 6: 
You will now be presented with a Congratulations screen.  Click Finish
 

 


Step 7: 
Now, go to Tools and select Accounts.
 


Step 8: 
Select the Account that you just created and click the Properties button.
 

Select the Internet Account to be setup and click the Properties button.

Step 9:  Click on the Servers tab.  Under Outgoing Mail Server, make sure that the My server requires authentication box is checked.  Now click on the Settings button.

 

Step 10:  Select the Log on using radio button and then in the Account name: field, enter your eRaider username and then enter your eRaider password in the Password: field and click OK.

 


Step 11: 
Click on the Advanced tab and check the box by This server requires a secure connection (SSL) for Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3)
 

 


Step 12: 
Click OK, and then click Close
