Setup TechMail for IMAP in Windows Live Mail

Windows Live Mail 2009 can be downloaded at no charge from Microsoft's website. To set up Windows Live Mail for TechMail using the IMAP option, follow the steps below.

NOTE: If you are not connected to the Internet through Texas Tech University, you may need to set up a VPN connection to TTUnet in order to use TTU's SMTP servers to send email.


STEP 1: If this is the first time you've opened Windows Live Mail, you may receive a prompt asking you to add an email account. If so, click Cancel.

          

Confirm that you want to close the window by clicking Yes.

          

STEP 2: Click Add e-mail account.

          

STEP 3: Configure the following settings, and then click Next.

          

STEP 4: Configure the following settings, and then click Next.

          

STEP 5: Click Finish.

          

STEP 6: Windows Live Mail will display a list of available folders that you may choose to show or hide from your folder list. Default folders are always visible, such as Inbox and Sent Items. However, you may need to click other folders in your mailbox and then click the Show button to make them display in your folder list. When finished, click OK.

          

STEP 7:  You will be able to send and receive email for your TechMail account using Windows Live Mail 2009.
