Setup TechMail for POP in Windows Live Mail
Windows Live Mail 2009 can be downloaded at no charge from Microsoft's website. To set up Windows Live Mail for TechMail using the POP option, follow the steps below.
NOTE: If you are not connected to the Internet through Texas Tech University, you may need to set up a VPN connection to TTUnet in order to use TTU's SMTP servers to send email.
STEP 1: If this is the first time you've opened Windows Live Mail, you may receive a prompt asking you to add an email account. If so, click Cancel.

Confirm that you want to close the window by clicking Yes.

STEP 2: Click Add e-mail account.

STEP 3: Configure the following settings, and then click Next.
- E‑mail address: your TechMail address
- Password: your eRaider password
- Display Name: your name as you would like it to appear on emails received from your account (we recommend the Last, First format)

STEP 4: Configure the following settings, and then click Next.
- Under Incoming Server Information
- My incoming mail server is a POP3 server.
- Incoming server: mail.ttu.edu
- Check "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
- Login ID: eRaider@ttu.edu, where eRaider is your eRaider username
- Under Outgoing Server Information
- Outgoing server: smtp.ttu.edu
- Check "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
- Check "My outgoing server requires authentication"

STEP 5: Click Finish.

STEP 6: You will be able to send and receive email for your TechMail account using Windows Live Mail 2009.
