Student email upgrade

Overview

After careful planning and working with SGA, as well as other student groups, TTU IT prepared a comprehensive upgrade process to minimize disruption to our students. Existing student mailboxes were moved from the Exchange Server hosted on the TTU campus to the Office 365 cloud hosted by Microsoft. All new mailboxes for incoming students are created by default on O365.

Laptop and desktop email settings

Most email client software will reconfigure itself with the new settings automatically by way of AutoDiscover. If you have difficulty with your email client, please review the our published list of basic settings or search at www.askit.ttu.edu for specific instructions for your software.

Fix for emails bouncing when sent from Outlook or Outlook Web App

If you've received an email bounce back recently, it could be due to an invalid Auto-Complete listing in your email client. Fortunately, there's a quick and easy way to fix this!

How to access Outlook Web App without signing in twice

If you are prompted to sign in twice when accessing TechMail through the Web, it is likely because you typed https://mail.ttu.edu instead of the new link for O365 email: https://outlook.com/ttu.edu.

Details for those who are both student and faculty/staff

Student accounts are hosted on Office 365 and faculty/staff accounts are hosted on the Exchange server at TTU. What about student employees accounts?

For an account to be hosted on Office 365 (Outlook.com) rather than the TTU Microsoft Exchange Server, all of the following criteria must be true for the account holder:

  • Have an active @ttu.edu mailbox
  • Current TTU student
  • Not an employee of TTU or TTUS, excluding student workers (student assistant, graduate assistant, teaching assistant, research assistant, etc.)

When a faculty/staff member becomes a student only, or vice versa, Will the account be moved automatically?

To ensure a friendly customer experience, mailboxes will not be moved from TTU-hosted Exchange to Office 365 automatically, or vice versa. When a move is needed, it will be done manually by Telecommunications in cooperation with the account owner and IT Help Central.
