Connect to an organizations website in Adobe Dreamweaver CS4

Follow the instructions below to connect to the server to edit your www.orgs.ttu.edu website.

NOTE: If you are off the TTU campus or connected through a wired connection in the TTU residence halls, establish a TTUnet VPN connection before beginning these steps.

STEP 1: Open Internet Explorer.

STEP 2: Type \\orgs.tosm.ttu.edu\sites\site_name in the Address Bar of your Internet Explorer window, where site_name is the name of your organizational website folder. Then, press Enter.

If prompted for credentials, use the following:

  • Username: ttu\eRaider, where eRaider is your eRaider username
  • Password: your eRaider password

STEP 3: Close the organizational website window which opens, and close Internet Explorer.

STEP 4: Open Dreamweaver and click on the Site icon. Choose Manage Sites from the drop-down list.

STEP 5: Before adding a new entry for your organizational website, review the list of sites to see if you have existing entries listed for your organizational website. If so, consider selecting them from the list and clicking Remove to avoid confusing them with the new entry you are about to add. (Removing an entry from this list will not delete or modify any of the actual files stored on the server.) If you clicked Remove, click Yes to confirm.

STEP 6: Click the New button. Then, click Site.

STEP 7: Under the Basic tab, type a name for your site in the first box. This can be any descriptive name you wish.

In the bottom field, type http://www.orgs.ttu.edu/site_name, where site_name is the name of your organizational website folder.

Click Next after you have typed the information.

STEP 8: Click the radio button next to "No, I do not wish to use a server technology." Then, click Next. (If you plan to use a server technology, this can be configured later.)

STEP 9: Select Edit directly on server using local network.

In the box asking "Where are your files on the network?", type \\orgs.tosm.ttu.edu\sites\site_name (where site_name is the name of your organizational website folder). Then, click Next.

STEP 10: Review all changes. You can click Back to edit any changes before saving. Click Done when you are finished.

STEP 11: Click Done.

You will be able to edit your organizational website with Dreamweaver. Any changes you save will be immediately visible to anyone on the Internet at http://www.orgs.ttu.edu/site_name.

Files you delete from your site are unrecoverable.

The name of the home page required is one of the following:

  • index.php
  • index.asp
  • index.aspx
  • index.htm
  • index.html
  • default.php
  • default.asp
  • default.aspx
  • default.htm
  • default.html
  • home.php
  • home.asp
  • home.aspx
  • home.htm
  • home.html

The Web server will look for the file names in the order listed above. The file name is case sensitive. If you name your home page file to one of these file names, then the page should show up when you go to your website's URL at http://www.orgs.ttu.edu/site_name. Be sure you have your home page in the root directory of the account and not in a sub-folder.

If you restart your computer or lose connection to your organizational website, you may need to follow Steps 1-3 again to re-authenticate before you will be able to connect to your organizational website in Dreamweaver.
