Capture a Screenshot

To capture a screenshot on your computer, please follow the instructions below for your operating system.

Jump to macOS instructions

Windows 7 and Windows 10

Method 1

STEP 1: Click on the Start button located at the bottom left.

STEP 2: In the search box type in Snipping Tool.

STEP 3: Click on the Snipping Tool icon in the search results to open it.

TIP: If this tool will be used often, right-click the icon and select "Pin to Start Menu".

STEP 4: In the program click the arrow next to New to select whether to take a screenshot of a window, the whole screen or a manual selection.

STEP 5: After the screenshot is taken, select where to save it and in what file format.

Method 2

To capture the entire screen

STEP 1: Press the Print Screen key. The capture will be copied to the clipboard.

STEP 2: Paste the image into an email, image editor (e.g. Paint, Photoshop, etc.) or a word editor (e.g. Microsoft Word).

To capture the active window

STEP 1: Press the Alt and Print Screen keys. The capture will be copied to the clipboard.

STEP 2: Paste the image into an email, image editor (e.g. Paint, Photoshop, etc.) or a word editor (e.g. Microsoft Word).

You can use the Print Screen key as noted above.

macOS

To capture the entire screen

Press the keys Command-Shift-3 at the same time. A file will be saved to your desktop.

To capture a region of the screen

Press the keys Command-Shift-4 at the same time. Then, click and drag the cursor to mark the area you want to capture. A file will be saved to your desktop.
