Below are the network ethics that Texas Tech expects adherence to by its faculty, staff, and students when utilizing TTUnet, the campus network, and any networks to which TTUnet is connected (e.g., the Internet and THEnet). Some of these ethics are part of Texas Tech policy, state law, and federal law.

Ethics

Unethical and Unacceptable Practices

Any activity is characterized as unethical and unacceptable that purposely does the following:

  • Seeks to gain unauthorized access to the resources of the Internet;

  • Disrupts the intended use of the network;

  • Wastes resources (people, capacity, computer) through such actions;

  • Destroys the integrity of computer-based information; or

  • Compromises the privacy of users.
