Texas Tech University is home to many world-class academic programs and traditions, but what truly makes Tech as excellent as it is, is the people. Some of which are honored each year with the Matador Award.

This year, Caitlyn English, Texas Tech University Independent School District's coordinator of international partnerships, is one of those.

The Matador Award recognizes a newcomer who has one to three years of service with Tech, who has made significant contributions and shared innovative ideas within their department and the Texas Tech community. The Distinguished Staff Award Selection Committee, comprised of the university chancellor and president, make a selection from a pool of various nominees each year.

Caitlyn was nominated by her supervisor, Jeff Oldham, TTUISD international principal.

“Caitlyn English is an extremely talented, hardworking, and dedicated employee. Saying ‘you're doing a good job' doesn't express my gratitude for the impact that she has made on our International Department at TTUISD. When I read the description for one of the TTU Distinguished Employee Awards, I did not hesitate to nominate Caitlyn” said Oldham.

Sam Oswald, TTUISD executive director, added “Caitlyn is key to our international operations, having direct contact with TTUISD partner schools. She represents TTUISD with professionalism and offers quality customer service. She is most deserving of this award!”

This view is not only held by those Caitlyn directly works for, but also with TTUISD administration she works with on a day-to-day basis. “Caitlyn has the natural ability and drive to make sure no detail is left unturned and to ensure that students are successful. Her professional attitude and caring spirit make her a joy to be around,” said Cari Moye, TTUISD supplemental principal.

Caitlyn said, “I was ecstatic when I found out that I had been selected. I think being nominated in itself is an honor, so when I realized that I had gotten the Matador Award, it was an added bonus!”

Even if the nomination came as a surprise to Caitlyn, it did not seem to surprise others that her hard work was being noticed.

In speaking with her, it was obvious that Caitlyn's passion and diligence creates an educational culture that shapes TTUISD international students' futures for the better. Even though her day-to-day tasks might feel small, the opportunities created for the students affected by her work is anything but small.

Caitlyn put it this way, “Within our department, we always say that everything we do directly affects a student, and for me, being able to positively impact students on even a small scale, makes it all worth it.”

Caitlyn will accept her award at a ceremony on November 15th. Thank you Caitlyn, for embodying the TTUISD vision to provide world-class and flexible academic solutions. The TTUISD and TTU community are proud of your accomplishments!
