In 2010, as part of the TTU K-12 international partnerships in Brazil, a young Bruno Helmer of Vitoria, Espirito Santo, began taking the TTU K-12 high school curriculum concurrently with his Brazilian schooling to earn the TTU K-12 concurrent diploma. This weekend Bruno graduates from Texas Tech University with his Bachelor of Business Administration in Management.

After his completion of the high school program and arrival at Texas Tech University, Bruno said in a 2014 interview, “When I attended the TTU K-12 international program I didn't know where I would go to get my degree. I used to hear about the Red Raiders and their traditions. When I think that I am about to become one, it sounds amazing. Being part of the Red Raider family means a lot to me.”

Bruno's dream always was to study at an American university, and he thought that dream could come true by attending Texas Tech.

“Since high school, I fell in love with the Tech traditions and history, and I wanted to continue my journey as a Red Raider in college.”

Much has happened since Bruno's arrival four years ago.

“I came here without family in the United States but full of dreams,” Bruno said. “Throughout my journey at Texas Tech, I've met incredible people, learned from great professors, and been part of different organizations and departments. Although I've been busy most of my time here in Lubbock, I had the chance to get to know more about the Texan and American culture and traditions.”

Since his first semester at Tech, Bruno has been involved in multiple student organizations so he could meet new people, engage with the campus life and give back to the community. In the past four years, he has been part of groups involving cultural, social, professional and volunteer areas. He also has worked in several departments on campus, doing student research, being an undergraduate teaching assistant and working with the residence halls.

“As I graduate from Texas Tech, I am getting my Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, and then I will be returning home to Brazil,” Bruno said. “I plan to apply to Brazilian medical schools, so I can start in Spring 2019 and continue my journey to become a physician. I believe that combining both degrees will give me some advantage in the field; I can use my knowledge to improve hospitals and the healthcare in developing countries such as my own.”

TTU K-12 congratulates Bruno for the successful pursuit of his dream of studying at an American university, and on graduation from Texas Tech. Here's to the next chapter of medical school in Brazil!
