Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to attend Orientation?

Yes. New Student Orientation is mandatory for all incoming first-year students and new transfers to Texas Tech Law. Orientation runs from Monday, August 14 through Friday, August 18. Please check the schedule for the full program of events.

How should I plan on dressing for orientation?

Business professional attire is required for the first day of Orientation. The remaining days are casual attire. On Friday students are expected to wear their class t-shirts (which they will receive the first day) and jeans for a class photo.

What do I need to bring to Orientation?

Please see the Before You Arrive page for a list of the important items and documents to bring with you.

Will I have time during orientation to run errands or make appointments on campus?

Typically, each day of orientation is a full day (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.). Please check the schedule for specific times.

What about meals?

We will provide lunch throughout Orientation. Beverages and snacks will be available throughout the day. If you have any dietary restrictions, please notify us in the "Pre-Orientation Information Form" on OrgSync.

Will I meet 2L and 3L students during orientation?

Yes. There are several planned activities throughout the week for new students to engage with current law students.

Where should I get my textbooks for classes?

You may purchase books in person at the Texas Tech University Barnes & Noble Bookstore (located in the TTU Student Union Building) or at Varsity Bookstore (located on University Avenue across from campus). You may also purchase your books online. NOTE: due to possible changes in class schedules and sections, if you do decide to purchase books, we suggest that you do so from a source to which you can easily return your books for a full refund.

Where can I get my student identification card?

Students will be given documents necessary to obtain their Student ID card during Orientation. Unless students are housing on campus, they should wait until Orientation to obtain their Student ID. Students will have opportunities after August 14 to obtain their Student ID from the Student Union Building.

Can I use the Student Rec Center?

The Law School has made special arrangements with the Student Rec Center for you to have access during the week of Orientation using your driver's license. You will use your Student ID for access after they become available.

Where do I park on campus?

The Law School parking lot (R21) will be open the week of orientation. If you wish, you can purchase your parking pass either in person or online before Orientation. Law students generally purchase parking passes for the R21/L21 or Commuter West lots. Visit this website for more information: http://www.parking.ttu.edu/students/student-parking-home.
