Texas Tech University

Library to host Open Access Week events

Sept. 26, 2016

Open Access

This year, the Library will host two events and one virtual event for Open Access Week. A kick-off panel is set for 1 p.m. Oct. 25 in TLPDC Room 151 in the Library, and a closing reception will take place at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in Library Room 309.

Open Access Week is an international week of action that takes place in late October; this year, it will be held from October 24-30 with the theme “Open in Action.” The theme highlights researchers, librarians, students and others who have made a commitment to working in the open.

Open Access Week Kick-Off Panel
1 p.m. Oct. 25
Teaching, Learning and Professional Development Center, Library Room 151

The panel will be moderated and Texas Tech researchers who have published open access will discuss their experiences and motivation for making their work open. This event is targeted toward faculty and graduate students, but staff and interested undergraduates are also welcome.

Virtual Upload-A-Thon
Oct. 24-30

Send a citation and accepted version (peer-reviewed, unformatted manuscript) of your most recent article to your Personal Librarian. The Office of Scholarly Communication will look into the policies of the journal and make the deposit for you. It's 100 percent copyright compliant, all major publishers already allow this practice, it's very easy, and you can start to see how greater availability increases the exposure and impact of your work.

Open Access Week Closing Reception
3:30-5 p.m. Oct. 28

Library Room 309

Join us for an informal celebration of Open Access Week, featuring resources at the Library that can support the campus with open access publishing. Refreshments, including wine, will be served.
