Study Spaces

The University Library offers GroupWorks space, group study rooms, group study carrels, and individual study carrels for you to reserve. 

Group Study

GroupWorks

3 GroupWorks are open spaces located on the Ground Floor, good for 5 - 8 people. GroupWorks offer multiple monitors for group discussion and presentation. You may reserve the GroupWorks space online for up to 6 hours per day.

Group Study Rooms

Study rooms, equipped with SMART Kapp whiteboards or traditional whiteboards, are larger study rooms for 8-12 people. Study rooms are located on Stack Floors S2, S4, and S5. You may reserve the study rooms online for up to 6 hours per day and check out a key from the East Service Desk. 

Group Study Carrels

Group study carrels, equipped with SMART Kapp whiteboards or traditional whiteboards, are small rooms for up to 4 people. Group study carrels are located on Stack Floors S1S2, and S3 of the TTU Libraries. You may reserve the study rooms online for up to 6 hours per day and check out a key from the East Service Desk. 

Individual Study

Individual Study Carrels

An individual study carrel is a small room for individual study or library research. Study carrels may be reserved by TTU (main campus) faculty, graduate (level 6000, 7000, 8000) and Honors College students working on their senior thesis (HON 3300, 4300).

Individual study carrels are located on Stack Floors S1, S2, and S3 of the TTU Libraries. Read the following information before you request an individual study carrel.  Failure to observe the carrel guidelines may result in suspension of privileges.

User Status Requirements Loan Period Renewal
TTU Visiting Scholar Work on main campus 1 semester Email confirmation;
Spring/Fall semesters: first 2 weeks
Summer semesters: first 1 week
Failure to renew a carrel at the proper time will result in the loss of its use.
TTU Graduate Course level 6000, 7000, 8000 1 semester Email confirmation;
Spring/Fall semesters: first 2 weeks
Summer semesters: first 1 week
Failure to renew a carrel at the proper time will result in the loss of its use.
TTU Honors Course level HON 3300, 4300 1 semester MUST be relinquished at the end of the semester

 

You may be placed on the waiting list if no carrels are available. You will be asked to relinquish your carrel if you leave or are no longer using the study carrel on a regular basis.

Items in Study Carrels

  • YOU are responsible for the belongings or equipment in the carrel. Personal computers, calculators, books or any other items of value should not be left unattended in the carrel.
  • All Library materials used in the carrels MUST be checked out at the Service Desk. We will inspect study carrels periodically and remove items that are not checked out or are non-circulating materials.
  • Any personal items left in the carrels past the loan period will be retained in the Circulation Department for 2 weeks. Item(s) not claimed within that time will be collected by the TTU Police Department.

Keys to Study Carrels

  • You will receive a key to the assigned carrel.
  • You MUST return the key to the Service Desk when you relinquish the carrel.
  • For each lost key, you will be charged a $60 replacement fee and a $10 processing fee. You may return the lost key to the Libraries at any time. Once the key is returned, the Libraries will issue a $60 credit for the charge to your Student Business Service account within 72 hours. The $10 processing fee for each key is NOT refundable.
