May 2007 Graduates

Manuela Avila is pursing a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Her research interest is in Cystic Fibrosis. Her Faculty Mentor is Dr. Abdul Hamood, Research Assistant Professor of Psychology.

Cody Cook is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in History. His research interest is in the Battle of Gettysburg. His Faculty Mentor is Dr. Alwyn Barr, Professor of History.

August 2006 Graduates


James Johnston is pursuing dual degrees with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. His research is titled "A Rhetorical Analysis: The Declaration of Independence and The Gentlemen's Magazine (1765-1780)." His Faculty Mentor is Dr. Ann Hawkins, Visiting Assistant Professor of English. His Graduate Mentor is Dave Yeats.

Donna Walker is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Her research interest is in criminal deviance. Her Faculty Mentor is Dr. Adam Rafalovich, Assistant Professor Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work.

May 2006 Graduates


Sandra Franco is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Her research interest is in child psychology. Her Faculty Mentor is Dr. Joaquin Borrego, Assistant Professor of Psychology.

Chavonne Long is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Her research is titled "The Relationship between Personal Growth, Initiative, Attachment, and Psychological Well-Being." Her Faculty Mentor is Dr. Christine Robitschek, Associate Professor of Psychology. Her Graduate Mentor is Amy Hershberger.

Valerie Martinez is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in History. Her research interest is in the Pacific Theater in World War II including battles and prisoners of war. Her Faculty Mentor is Dr. Aliza Wong, Assistant Professor of History.

Lakysha Mosley is pursuing dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering and Microbiology. Her research is titled "Isolation and Characterization of Gain of Function Mutations in oprJ and oprM which Function with MDR Efflux Pumps in Escherichia Coli." Her Faculty Mentor is Dr. Joe Fralick, Professor in Microbiology/ Immunology.

Claudia Porras is pursing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Her research is in criminal thinking. Her Faculty Mentor is Dr. Robert Morgan, Assistant Professor of Psychology.

Uriyah Robinson is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. His research topic is "Analyzing Potential Antibody Reaction to Cancerous Cells." His Faculty Mentor is Dr. Lauren Gollahon, Assistant Professor of Biological Science.

Angelica Salazar is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Her research interest is in developmental patterns in guppies. Her Faculty Mentor is Dr. Richard Strauss, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences.

Raj Sigh is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. His research interest is in Sytematics of Oligoryzomys. His Faculty Mentor is Dr. Jorge Salazar-Bravo, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences. His Graduate Mentor is Donna Hamilton.

Kalem Wright is pursuing dual degrees of Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Arts in History with a Minor in Black Studies. His research is titled "A Culture and its Heroes: A Cultural Nationalist Reinterpretation of the Modern Civil Rights Movement and Beyond: 1960-2000." His Faculty Mentor is Dr. Kwame Alford, Assistant Professor of History. His Graduate Mentor is Steven Short.

December 2005 Graduates


David Barrientos received a Bachelor of Arts in History. His research was titled "Roma Basketball: An Analysis of the Social and Community Impact with Mexican American Sports Involvement in South Texas." His Faculty Mentor was Dr. Jorge Iber, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of History. His Graduate Mentor was Leland Turner.

Blacita Diaz received a Bachelor of Education with a focus on bi-lingual education. Her research interest is in language shift. Her Faculty Mentor is Dr. Colleen M. Fitzgerald, Associate Professor of English.

Janie Gonzales received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Her research was titled "The Relationship of Student's Self-Perception and Actual Performance Across Gender and Ethnicity." Her Faculty Mentor was Dr. Ruth Maki, Professor of Psychology. Her Graduate Mentor was Laura Garza.

Sahala Hardin received a Bachelor of Science degree in Multidisciplinary Science. Her research was titled "How Research Experience Effects Teaching Style and Perspective." Her Faculty Mentors were Dr. Gerald Skoog, Horn Professor in the College of Education, and Dr. Mark McGinley, Associate Professor of Biological Science.

Aldo Romero received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with minors in Spanish and Mathematics. His research was titled "Further Development of Binder Quality Assurance." His Faculty Mentor was Dr. Sanjaya Senadheera, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering.

August 2005 Graduates


Tiffany Ribordy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Her research was titled, "Enhancement of Student Critical Thinking through Collaborative Simulation Technology." Her Faculty Mentors were Dr. Patricia Yoder-Wise, Professor in the School of Nursing, and Sharon Decker, Professor and Director of Clinical Simulations in the School of Nursing. She began a Masters of Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the fall of 2005.

Sylvia Romero received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies. Her research was titled "The Match or Mismatch of Cultural Practices between the Home Environment and School Environment and its Effects on Hispanic Children." Her Faculty Mentor was Dr. Yvonne Caldera, Assistant Professor of Human Development Family Studies. Her Graduate Mentor was Victoria Bowman. She began a Masters in Human Development and Family Studies from The Texas Tech University in the fall of 2005.

Sean Yates received a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. His research was titled "The Effect of Iron on Pyocyanin Production by Pseudomonas Aeruginosa." His Faculty Mentor was Dr. Abdul Hamood, Research Assistant Professor of Microbiology. He is taking graduate classes at Texas Tech and Texas Tech University Health Science Center in the fall of 2005 to prepare for medical school admission for 2006.

May 2005 Graduates


Jessica Gomez received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture. Her research was titled "The Cathedral and Alcazar of Seville Spain: A Study of Christian and Islamic Architecture." Her Faculty Mentor was Dr. Clifton Ellis, Assistant Professor of Architecture. Her Graduate Mentor was Ashley Armes. She began pursuing a Master's of Architecture from Texas Tech University in the fall of 2005.

Dustin Marks received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. His research was titled "Studying CO2 induced Aspaltene Precipitation Using NMR." His Faculty Mentor was Dr. Waylon House, Associate Professor of Engineering. He will work for a company, Amerada Hess, which will provide funding for his future graduate education.
